36] – The Basel Peace Office [info@baselpeaceoffice.org] on Wed., July 16 at noon ET will be doing "Confronting the Achilles’ Heel of the UN System." The event will look at Effective Approaches to Limit the P5 use of UN Security Council veto and is in commemoration of the World Day for International Justice. Abuse of the veto power by members of the UN Security Council has been a death sentence for thousands of civilians in the face of ongoing mass atrocities. It can be tempting to regard the status quo as inevitable and impermeable. However, there have been positive steps in recent years, such as the passage of UN General Assembly Resolution 76/262, which mandates a debate in the General Assembly whenever a veto is cast in the Security Council. 37] –The DNC Environment and Climate Crisis Council [info@dncclimate.org] on Wed., July 16 at noon ET will host a Children’s Climate Rights Press Conference & Rally in WDC at the US Capitol - Senate Swamp , Capitol Driveway NE, WDC. Rally around 22 young Americans fighting for a livable climate future. With Council Chair Deatrick, Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida President Judy Freiberg, and High School Democrats of America leaders. This event, organized by Our Children’s Trust, will uplift the voices of the Lighthiser v. Trump youth plaintiffs and support the new resolution protecting children’s rights to a livable climate. At the press conference, there will be an introduction of a congressional resolution recognizing children’s rights to life and a stable climate system — and to support youth suing the Trump administration over its dangerous fossil fuel executive orders. Email liz@ourchildrenstrust.org. RSVP at https://actionnetwork.org/events/youth-v-trump-rights-to-life-and-a-stable-climate-resolution-press-conference-and-rally-2/

38] – Jewish Voice for Peace is doing a Power Half-Hour for Gaza: Channel grief & outrage into action to stop a genocide.  A year into the genocide in Gaza, we are overwhelmed with sorrow and rage. There are no words to describe the devastating pain of the past year in which the Israeli military has killed over 58,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 17,000 children. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court have both declared that Israel must stop the genocidal acts being committed on the Palestinian people. And the U.S. government is actively supporting the Israeli military as it wreaks devastation on the over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. JVP continues to come together as a political community in its daily half-hour to take action. Join in and take collective action to demand an arms embargo to Israel, immediate end to the genocide, a lasting ceasefire and an end to Israeli siege, apartheid, occupation, and oppression of Palestinians and Lebanon. All are welcome. All are needed. Get involved at 3 PM ET on Wed., July 16, Thurs., July 17, Mon., July 21 & Tues., July 22. 40] – The Union of Concerned Scientists [action@ucs.org] on Wed., July 16 from 4 to 5 PM ET is holding a webinar Meeting the Moment through Climate Litigation. As legal cases against fossil fuel companies grow in number and significance, so do legal and political efforts that could limit their progress. At the same time, courts around the world are increasingly recognizing the critical role of scientific evidence in informing these proceedings. The Union of Concerned Scientists invites you to join the Science Hub for Climate Litigation for a timely conversation on what's advancing, what’s being challenged, and how scientists are getting involved. 47] – CODEPINK’s Local Peace Economy team [peaceeconomy@codepink.org] is meeting on Wed., July 16 at 8 PM ET for Reciprocity & the Local Peace Economy. Reciprocity has been core to the thriving of cultures for millennium.  We have touched on the idea of reciprocity in gatherings before. Genevieve Vaughan shared how the war economy made exchanges transactional rather than gift based. We are fortunate to have Sabrina Meherally joining us for this meeting. She wrote a beautiful article on Medium about "Reciprocity as Relational Responsibility" that describes it as a pivot we must take in order to properly understand reciprocal relationships. She writes, "Reciprocity, in its truest form, isn’t just about payment. It’s about responsibility. It’s about what happens after the conversation ends, after the data is collected, after the story is shared in trust. It’s about what we carry forward and how we live in relation to those who’ve gifted their knowledge."

Sabrina is the founder of Pause + Effect, where she "supports others to tend to their own becoming as they compost inherited ways of being, and shape-shift toward the futures we long for." As those interested in cultivating a Local Peace Economy, we are all shape-shifting toward a longed for future as well. RSVP at https://www.codepink.org/lpe0716?utm_campaign=july_16th_lpe_gathering&utm_medium=email&utm_source=codepinkWith care
