30] –American Family Voices [admin@americanfamilyvoices.org] wants
you to join the group in D.C. to Fight for Voting Rights. Right now in states
all across the country, voting rights are under attack. That’s why federal
reform to protect access to the ballot box is so critically important.
Later this month the Senate plans to bring S.1, the For the People Act,
to the floor for a vote, a transformative piece of legislation that will protect
voting rights, end gerrymandering, and push back against the influence of big
money in politics. On Wed., June 9 from 9:45 AM to noon, rally at the Supreme
Court, 1 First St. NE, WDC, across from the Capitol. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/dfadcoalition/event/393707/?link_id=0&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-demand-affordable-internet-access-now&email_referrer=email_1200210&email_subject=join-us-in-dc-tomorrow-to-fight-for-voting-rights.
34] – On Wed., June 9 from 2 to 3:30 PM, tune in online to Control with Nuclear Resonances. Arms control treaties are not sufficient in and of themselves to neutralize the existential threat of nuclear weapons. Technologies are necessary for verifying the authenticity of the nuclear warheads undergoing dismantlement before counting them towards a treaty partner’s obligation. Areg Danagoulian and colleagues have developed a neutron-based concept which uses observations of isotope specific nuclear transitions to authenticate a warhead's fissile components. Most actinides such as uranium and plutonium exhibit unique sets of nuclear resonances when interacting with eV neutrons. When measured, these resonances produce isotope-specific features in the spectral data, thus creating an isotopic-geometric "fingerprint" of an object. All information in these measurements is encrypted in the physical domain through a process called physical cryptography. Using proof-of-concept experiments, these techniques are shown to reveal no isotopic or geometric information about the weapon, while readily detecting hoaxing attempts. This talk with Areg Danagoulian, MIT .will be a discussion of the policy context, the concept of the experimental techniques, along with results from simulation and experimental measurements. This lecture is sponsored by the Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, and you can participate at https://www.belfercenter.org/event/nuclear-arms-control-nuclear-resonances.
