4] - Suzanne Fontanesi and Jeff Ross are in the beginning stages of renovating the basement of their house for purposes of bringing in a volunteer (targeting young adults in discernment mode), starting next fall. They are trying to grow a Catholic Worker House in Irvington (West Baltimore). In a nutshell, there is a lot that a volunteer could do in that neighborhood/Baltimore, in addition to prayer and daily community living and in addition to plugging into all the good work that people are already doing in and around Baltimore (and beyond). If you think you might know of anyone who might be interested in starting a conversation with them about becoming such a volunteer/community member, please contact Jeff/Suzanne at 443-690-6872.
5] – Max is in need of a garage or a storage space. Any suggestions would be welcome. Contact Max at 410-323-1607 or mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net.
6] – Is there a woman in the Baltimore area who does house cleaning? This assignment would be on an irregular basis with several hours per week. Contact Max at 410-323-1607 or mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net.
7] – Beyond Extreme Energy wants you to know about The Walk for Our Grandchildren which begins on Sun., June 20 and continues through Mon., June 28. In 2013, a multi-generational group of climate activists walked from Camp David, Maryland to Washington, DC. Their goal: to tell President Obama and other policy makers that we must keep the majority of fossil fuels in the ground. Now, in 2021, elders and youth are walking once again to demand climate action from President Biden. Biden has promised bold actions to address climate change, yet his current proposals are still inadequate to address the climate emergency. The 2021 Walk will take place from Scranton, Pennsylvania to Wilmington, Delaware. Along the route, hear from frontline organizers fighting against fossil fuels, attend rallies, and take part in civil disobedience! Register at https://forms.gle/TVcW2JCqePSH1z5Z7. To make direct contact with a Walk for Our Grandchildren organizer, contact Steven Norris: (828)-777-7816 or earthsun2@gmail.com. See https://www.facebook.com/2021walk4ourgrandchildren.
8] – Usually, the Baltimore Ethical Society, 2521 St. Paul St., Baltimore 21218, meets on Sundays, and generally there is a speaker and discussion at 10:30 AM. Usually there are discussions of worthy issues, but on Sun., June 20 for some unexplained reason, the subject is “The Right to Gun Ownership.” This past weekend in Baltimore twenty people were shot. I presume all of the shooters believed that he had a right to have a gun in order to shoot someone. I am baffled that someone from the Ethical Society will claim it is ethical to own a gun. BES member Stuart Hirsch will give his perspective as a new gun owner and how and why he has changed his opinion of gun ownership and how he now understands and now supports the right to own guns, what he thinks the rights and responsibilities of gun ownership, and what he thinks reasonable and responsible gun legislation and regulation should be to both protect our right to own firearms and better protect potential victims of gun violence. I sure hope he doesn’t make the argument more guns make us safe in Baltimore. The Zoom link and more info can be obtained at PRESIDENT@BMORETHICAL.ORG for INFORMATION.

14] – Dr Bill Honigman for Progressive Democrats of America [info@pdamerica.org] is inviting you to Sign Up For Sunday's Healthcare Emergency Town Hall on June 20 at 4 PM ET. Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) agree with the majority of the U.S. Supreme Court that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) needs to remain in place, at least until more and better healthcare is made available to the American people. Unfortunately, while the ACA does make healthcare affordable for many who need it (and profitable for some who really DON'T need it), it absolutely does NOT make healthcare affordable for ALL who need it.
Therefore, PDA will continue to advocate for what the vast majority of the people of America want and need—healthcare as a human right through a #SinglePayer expanded and improved #MedicareForAll (MFA) system. And, public health, economic, and social scientists all agree, because science and mathematics tell us that MFA will save money—lots of money, and save lives—lots of lives. #EverybodyInNobodyOut. As this Sunday is Father’s Day, there is the need to protect and provide healthcare for all fathers and all who have had a father. The special guest speaker is Joel R. Segal, former lead Healthcare Policy Advisor and Legislative Assistant to the late great Rep. John Conyers, Jr., D-MI, author of H.R.676 (the National MFA Act that remained the gold standard federal Single Payer legislation in Congress for over a decade), co-founder of PDA, and PDA National Advisory Board Member for many years, to discuss what needs to be done now to get more Members of Congress signed on as cosponsors to H.R.1976, the National MFA Act of 2021, and now also H.R.3775, the new State Based Universal Healthcare Act. Sign up here https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0tceuhrzsvHdymeeZRwb-i7X50FJa-HMR4.
15] – SACHA, A CHILD FROM CHERNOBYL is a film about the untold story of Cuba’s contribution to help victims of Chernobyl. See the film on Sun., June 20 at 8 PM EST with English subtitles and Remarks by the Cuban Ambassador to the United States, Lianys Torres Rivera. Olexandr Savchenko, “Sacha,” was one year old when the explosion of the nuclear power plant Vladimir Ilich Lenin at Chernobyl occurred on April 26, 1986. He lived in Chernigov, a village in the Ukrainian countryside near the area of the accident. He got sick shortly afterward and doctors were unable to make a clear diagnosis because the healthcare system had collapsed while the then Soviet Union was close to disintegrating. Sacha’s condition worsened to the despair of his mother, Lidia Savchenko, who took her baby from one doctor to another without his getting better. One day, other mothers in similar situations told her that there was a possibility that he could be treated on a small island far away. Sacha, it turns out, is one of the 26,000 boys and girls from Russia, Belarus, and the Ukraine who were treated in Cuba over a 21 year period after the nuclear accident at Chernobyl.
This is the context for the history told by the new 39 minute documentary; directed by Cuban film-makers Roberto Chile and Maribel Acosta Damas and produced by the Argentine news agency Resumen Latinoamericano. You do not need to register to view the movie: https://www.resumen-english.org/2021/06/sacha-a-child-from-chernobyl/?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=adea408c-6375-4b2c-b21f-5b8432316bb9.
