32] – Drew Hudson [drew@198methods.org] wants you to know about an action in D.C.  President Biden isn't taking the action we need on climate change. Can you join in to apply some people-pressure before it's too late?  Follow the leadership of indigenous leaders and climate activists from all over North America as they rally to demand protect people, not polluters, and enact a bold climate justice infrastructure bill.

While fires rage out west and storms threaten the Gulf, President Biden is busy meeting with Republicans and failing us all on climate.  If he wants to be a climate champion, time is running out, just as it is running out for our communities. There is no room for compromise when it comes to the very survival of our planet. Join in on Wed., June 30 starting at 7 AM  to be a part of the movement that changes the trajectory of this administration so that the White House stands up for the rights of our communities instead of doing the bidding of corporate polluters.  Come to FREEDOM PLAZA and PLAN TO STAY ALL DAY.  Sign up at HTTPS://WWW.J30.EARTH/?LINK_ID=7&CAN_ID=4B9D4061AEC5469758759317AC0F5285&SOURCE=EMAIL-THE-NEXT-100-DAYS-ARE-OUR-TIME-TO-THRIVE-2&EMAIL_REFERRER=EMAIL_1218683&EMAIL_SUBJECT=HOT-WEEK-OF-DC-ACTION-AHEAD-CAN-YOU-JOIN-US-FIRSTNAME-DEFAULT.

36] – On Wed., June 30 at 3:30 PM, tune into In Defense of a Bold U.S. Approach Toward North Korea, sponsored by Harvard University's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.  The speaker is former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea Young-kwan Yoon.  While U.S. administrations over the past three decades have tried various forms of North Korea policy, denuclearization remains elusive. As time passes, the situation continues to deteriorate. Thirty years ago, North Korea was at an embryonic stage in terms of nuclear development. Many analysts argue that North Korea has now become a de facto nuclear weapons state with 30-60 nuclear warheads and ICBM capabilities that could threaten the security of the United States. What factors led to the current state? Is there a way forward in addressing this urgent situation?  Visit https://www.belfercenter.org/event/defense-bold-us-approach-toward-north-korea.

40] –  The 20-Year American War in Afghanistan: A Discussion of its Impact will happen on Wed., June 30 from 7:30 to 8:30 PM EDT, sponsored by Maryland Peace Action.  President Biden says that he is winding down the U.S. role in Afghanistan and that all the troops will be home from America’s longest war by Sept. 11.   What did the war do to the people of Afghanistan? What was its impact on Americans—soldiers, contractors, and those at home?  Can we possibly learn anything from this war? Join us for a conversation with Fahima Gaheez and Matthew Hoh.

Fahima Gaheez grew up in Afghanistan and from an early age was involved with the women’s rights movement there. After immigrating to the U.S., she continued her work for the people of Afghanistan from afar.  In 2007, she founded the Afghan Women’s Fund in collaboration with another group, and in 2011 it was incorporated as an independent charity.

Matthew Hoh is a senior fellow with the Center for International Policy and a member of the Eisenhower Media Network (EMN). He is a 100% disabled Marine combat veteran.  Hoh served in Iraq; first from 2004 to 2005 in Salah ad-Din Province with a State Department reconstruction and governance team, and then from 2006 to 2007 in Anbar Province as a Corps company commander.  From 2002-2008, when not deployed, Hoh worked on Afghanistan and Iraq policy and operations issues at the Pentagon and State Department. In 2009, he resigned his position with the State Department in Afghanistan in protest over the escalation of the war.  Register at http://masspeaceaction.org/event/the-20-year-american-war-in-afghanistan-a-discussion-of-its-impact/.
