5] – After months denying science, shrugging off masks, and downplaying the seriousness of the pandemic, the inevitable happened: Trump has tested positive for COVID-19. But unlike most people, Trump will have access to top notch medical care, rest, and no worries about the security of his paycheck.  He could have taken action to provide that same security to everyone else, and he didn’t. He lied about the seriousness of the virus, he lied about what needed to be done to stop its spread, and he allowed hundreds of thousands of people to die. When it comes to a crisis, Trump will always choose his personal agenda over saving lives. We can’t allow him to keep fumbling over this pandemic, and we certainly don’t want him in the way of our efforts to stop climate change. We must vote him out.

Thousands of people are making a difference this election season by dedicating just two hours a week to the Sunrise Victory Squad. If you join us, you can help reach hundreds of thousands of people with phone calls and postcards. Together, make sure their votes are counted in this election so Trump and the members of Congress who enable him are kicked out for good. 6] – On Sun., Oct. 4 from 8:15 to 10:30 AM, Walk for Change in Old Town, Alexandria.  Start at Misha's Coffeehouse, 102 S. Patrick St., Alexandria, VA 22314. Every Morning, Walk. Wear shirts or carrying signs with positive messages of Equality. The only prerequisite is an able body, loving heart and a dedication to ACTION for change and EQUALITY. Each member has taken action and contributed $ to a BLM cause and continues to keep the MOVEment alive through Daily Walks. Check out https://www.facebook.com/events/250840709478673/?event_time_id=250840719478672.

7] - Usually, the Baltimore Ethical Society, 2521 St. Paul St., Baltimore 21218, meets on Sundays, and generally there is a speaker and discussion at 10:30 AM.  On Sun., Oct. w, the platform address is “Being Mortal.”  Few books so effectively combine the mundane and the profound as does Atul Gawande’s “Being Mortal.” It bemoans the fact that technological society has lost touch with “the art of dying.” No human story is complete without the conclusion of our finite time, and yet as authors of our own life we avoid scripting it. We hardly even discuss it.  As a result, we deprive ourselves of an opportunity to craft and savor the miraculous wholeness of life. Hugh Taft-Morales explores Gawande’s insights about medicine, its limits, and what matters in the end.

Hugh Taft-Morales joined the Baltimore Ethical Society as its professional leader in 2010, the same year he was certified by the American Ethical Union as an Ethical Culture Leader. Email ask@bmorethical.org. Visit https://bmorethical.org/?post_type=dd_events&p=4228.

24] –On Mon., Oct. 5 from 7 to 9 PM, get with Profs & Pints Online: Supreme Court at a Crossroads.  Tickets for this Online Event are at www.crowdcast.io/e/scotus2020.  Hear from David Fontana, professor of law at the George Washington University, scholar of the Supreme Court, and frequent writer on constitutional issues.  It will remain available in recorded form at https://www.crowdcast.io/e/scotus2020. This October 5th marks the date that the U.S. Supreme Court begins its new term at a moment of great risk for itself, with its reputation being challenged and a looming presidential election that could produce an outcome that sinks the high court even lower. The death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which leaves a vacant seat to fill, ensures that the court will be at the center of especially intense partisan struggle over the coming months. Polling data suggests that—for the first time ever—there are durable majorities of Americans who believe that the Justices base their decisions on politics more than on law. Look at https://www.facebook.com/profsandpints/.

25] – Get over to a Baltimore County Council Policing Vote on Mon., Oct. 5 at 6 PM ET.  Following the County Council's work session on 9/29, the Council will meet to vote on the bills discussed. See https://jufj.org/event/baco-10-5/?emci=d512f178-26f9-ea11-99c3-00155d039e74&emdi=eb0bf9d4-acf9-ea11-99c3-00155d039e74&ceid=3403859.

To be continued.
