59] – TAKE BACK THE CAPITOL from Mon., Dec. 5 through Fri., Dec. 9.  On December 6 converge on Capitol Hill to show Congress what democracy looks like, shine a light on corporate greed and the human suffering it has caused, and demand justice for the 99%.  Organized by community, labor, Occupy and other groups, "Take Back the Capitol" will feature three full days of spirited actions, speak-outs, protests, and entertainment.

Progressive Maryland is joining in the organizing on TUESDAY.  Meet at Union Station at 9:30 AM.  Then trek to the Capitol in a mobilization to Take Back the People's House.  From the People's Action Center (Lower Senate Park, near C St. and New Jersey Ave., Northwest), groups will be formed to remind members of Congress that the Capitol is the People's House, and demand that they represent the 99% by supporting the extension of Unemployment Insurance Benefits and fight for JOBS, not cuts.  Go to www.ProgressiveMaryland.org.

61] – There is usually a vigil to abolish the death penalty every Monday from 5 to 6 PM, outside the prison complex and across the street from Maryland's Super Max Prison, at the corner of Madison Ave. and Fallsway in Baltimore.  Recently death row was moved out of Baltimore, but it was decided to continue the vigil. 72] – Author Rabbi Michael Lerner will discuss and sign his new book HEALING ISRAEL/PALESTINE: A Path to Peace and Reconciliation. The book shows that it is possible to be both pro-Israel and pro-Palestine, and provides a clear blueprint for a peace settlement. 74] – On Tues., Dec. 6 at 7:30 PM, there is an experiential workshop Peace on Earth and Good Will Toward All.  Learn ways to practice the daily art of peacemaking. The presenters are Mary Joan (MJ) Park, recipient of the 2008 Pax Christi Award "Teacher of Peace," and Sharon O'Brien, Resurrection Parishioner and co-organizer for Catholic Network for Family Peace.  MJ Park has run peace camps for children in our area for twenty years and has written educational materials on peacemaking for families and children. Sharon O'Brien does anti-violence work with adults. Another aspect of this program is that Sharon will give a brief overview of the JustFaith program, "Engaging Our Conflicts: An Exploration of Nonviolent Peacemaking", that she will be facilitating at Resurrection Parish from January to May (one evening a month),  This event will be held at Church of the Resurrection, 3315 Greencastle Road, Burtonsville, MD 20866.
