While we struggle to pay bills and get by, billionaires and the corporations they run are having a heyday. And, they want to keep it rolling. Billionaire families poured over $2 billion into the 2024 election. Trump is no friend of working and middle class people. He is tapping 13 of his billionaire buddies to help him run the government, giving the 3 richest men seats of honor, and ensuring that oil and gas executives get massive kickbacks for their contributions to his campaign. They don't want to see a Green New Deal, wealth tax, or Medicare for All cut into their hoards. It's clearer than it has ever been.

Get the message from Jonathan Tarleton — Homes for Living: The Fight for Social Housing and a New American Commons - with Amanda Huron. The American Dream of homeownership is becoming an American Delusion. As renters seek an escape from record-breaking rent hikes, first-time buyers find that skyrocketing interest rates and historically low inventory leave them with scant options for an affordable place to live. With home valued more than ever as a commodity, even social housing programs meant to insulate families from cut-throat markets are under threat--sometimes by residents themselves. In Homes for Living, urban planner and oral historian Jonathan Tarleton introduces readers to two social housing co-ops in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Longtime residents of St. James Towers and Southbridge Towers lock horns over whether to maintain the rules that have kept their homes affordable for decades or to cash out at great personal profit, thereby denying future generations the same opportunity to build thriving communities rooted in mutual care.

Shayla is a former Teachers Union shop steward, has led the fight on the school board for care not policing in our schools, and fought back against developers to get strong project labor agreements on public school projects. This race will decide the balance of power on a County Council split 5 – 5 between corporate developer interests and progressives. Establishment Democrats are opposing Shayla with everything they have.

69] – Ronda Cooperstein [rondacooperstein@hotmail.com] on Sat., March 1 at 2 PM wants you to know that Baltimore Peace Action is screening 200 Meters at Homewood Friends Meetinghouse, 3107 N. Charles St. Mustafa, a Palestinian construction worker, lives in a West Bank home a mere 200 meters away from his wife and children, on the other side of the Israeli border wall. Though eligible for an Israeli ID, Mustafa sacrifices living with his family in resistance to what he believes are unjust laws enforced by the occupying Israeli government, so he instead uses his work permit to visit daily. The arrangement is functional, until one day Mustafa gets a call every parent dreads: his son has been seriously injured and brought to an Israeli hospital. Rushing to cross the border checkpoint, Mustafa is denied on a technicality. Stopping at nothing to reach his child, a 200 meter distance becomes a 200 kilometer odyssey, as the increasingly desperate Mustafa attempts to smuggle himself to the other side of the wall. Featuring a mesmerizing central performance by Ali Suliman (Paradise Now, Jack Ryan), 200 METERS "persuasively captures the grinding indignities of day to day Palestinian life" (Screen Daily) in an impressive feature debut by writer/director Ameen Neyfeh that expertly balances tender family drama and frenetic political thriller.
70] – Check out Speaking with Friends about Genocide on Sat., March 1 from 2 to 5 PM at the Tenley-Friendship Library, 4450 Wisconsin Ave. NW, WDC 20016. We are gathering to share experience and strategy. What are key points of concern and possible means of influence? The presenters are Philip Farah - "Living under Occupation," Sam Husseini - "UN Res. 377, Uniting for Peace," and John Kiriakou - "Corruption of the Press."
71] – Hideaki Ito [silentfalloutproject.org@gmail.com] wants to give you an update about the Silent Fallout Project. It has been more than five months since Silent Fallout was screened in Baltimore. He wants to express his sincere gratitude to all who supported the project during its US tour and hosted screenings. The film was shown in 20 locations over 43 days to over 600 people. The film aims to raise awareness about the reality of radiation contamination across the American continent and how many Americans are unknowingly exposed. It helps people understand that they are impacted by this issue and then use the US as a starting point to spark a global conversation about radiation.
Currently, the project is facing a deficit of $100K, and its future is uncertain. However, Ito is determined to raise funds and continue its activities. In 2025, which marks the 80th year since the birth of the atomic bomb, there is a plan to embark on a European screening tour, produce a new film, conduct a second US tour, and host a large-scale event on August 6th. “One is called to live nonviolently, even if the change one works for seems impossible. It may or may not be possible to turn the US around through nonviolent revolution. But one thing favors such an attempt: the total inability of violence to change anything for the better" - Daniel Berrigan
