52] – The Metro DC DSA [info@mdcdsa.org] is holding a Social Housing Organizing meeting on Thurs., Nov. 16 at 6 PM ET. Email social.housing.wg@gmail.com

Join the Working Group for its biweekly organizing meeting. Learn about its latest activities, what they're planning for the future, and how to get involved. Educate Metro DC DSA chapter members and the general public about social housing and to facilitate collective action in support of the passage and implementation of the Green New Deal for Housing Amendment Act.  The legislation proposes to create mixed-income, district-owned housing with market rate units that subsidize a larger number of affordable units. It's a pioneering approach that deepens affordability, invests surplus funds into the creation of more social housing, and locks-in financial sustainability. The bill also includes climate and labor standards and elected tenant boards with oversight over building management.   A link to attend this virtual event will be emailed upon RSVP to https://actionnetwork.org/events/november-16-2023-social-housing-organizing-meeting?link_id=58&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-october-27-2023-2&email_referrer=email_2109499&email_subject=metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-november-10-2023

53] –Attend a Virtual Meeting (and Vote) on the Future of Baltimore's Water on Thurs., Nov. 16 from 6 to 9 PM ET. The Baltimore Regional Water Governance Task Force will meet virtually to vote on a new governance model to be studied to operate Baltimore's water and sewer system. The outcome of this task force vote could take control of Baltimore's water away from the Baltimore City government. Without conducting research into how millions worth of transition costs might be passed on to ratepayers, Baltimore City residents might end up paying to have control of their water taken away. To make matters worse, a new governing authority could potentially end the ban on water shutoffs and put the city's income-based water billing program in harm's way. Tell the Baltimore Regional Water Governance Task Force that Baltimoreans should NOT be paying to fund the loss of democratic control over their water. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/592058/?followup_modal_context=nonexclusive_newsletter_closest
