] – Join a Pray-In at the White House calling on Biden to Support an Israel-Hamas Ceasefire on Thurs., Nov. 2 (All Souls Day) at 12:30 PM outside the White House (north side on Pennsylvania Avenue, across from Lafayette Park). Catholic and other Christian peacemakers will conduct a “pray-in" outside the White House to call on President Biden, a Catholic, to abide by Jesus' way of love and heed Pope Francis's plea to take the side of peace, and urge all parties to de-escalate hostilities, abide by an immediate ceasefire and release all hostages. The focus must shift to diplomacy, accountability mechanisms, robust humanitarian aid, and strategic peacebuilding. The witness will include offering prayers remembering the saints (November 1 is All Saints Day) and all the faithfully departed (November 2 is All Souls Day), and praying for all Israelis and Palestinians who are suffering, have been injured, and have died in the war. Some people will prayerfully engage in an act of nonviolent civil resistance.  President Biden and Pope Francis are NOT on the same page. Have new ideas to combat gun violence, but don’t know how to get them off the ground? Every week, a member of the organizing team is here to support your work. Sign up for the shift that works best for your schedule. If you can't find a time that works for you, email rgonzalez@bradyunited.org to schedule time to talk. 44] –  The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, plans to hold three protests calling for a ceasefire in Gaza after the death toll of Palestinians surpassed 8,000 people, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The first protest was in front of Senator Ben Cardin’s office in Rockville, Md., calling for something to be done to end violence in the region. The next one was outside Rep. John Sarbanes’ office in Columbia, MD.  The final protest will be held on Thurs., Nov. 2 at 6 PM outside Rep. Kweisi Mfume’s office in Catonsville, Md.

] – The Detention Watch Network [program@detentionwatchnetwork.org] on Thurs., Nov. 2 at 6 PM ET is hosting a virtual Day of the Dead. Remember those who have lost their lives in ICE and CBP custody this year including in detention centers in Louisiana and California, learn about the cultural significance of this day, get an update on the national state of detention and take action to support local and national efforts to end detention and defund these agencies.  Since Biden took office in January 2021, 12 community members have died in ICE custody, 21 people have died in CBP custody and more than 890 people have died attempting to enter the United States in fiscal year 2022 between ports of entry across the southwest border. We know immigration enforcement is deadly and we need to take action!  RSVP at https://detentionwatchnetwork.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/detentionwatchnetwork/event.jsp?event=286&

] – The Metro DC DSA [info@mdcdsa.org] is holding a Social Housing Organizing meeting on Thurs., Nov. 2 at 6 PM ET. Email social.housing.wg@gmail.com

Join the Working Group for its biweekly organizing meeting. Learn about its latest activities, what they're planning for the future, and how to get involved. Educate Metro DC DSA chapter members and the general public about social housing and to facilitate collective action in support of the passage and implementation of the Green New Deal for Housing Amendment Act.  The legislation proposes to create mixed-income, district-owned housing with market rate units that subsidize a larger number of affordable units. It's a pioneering approach that deepens affordability, invests surplus funds into the creation of more social housing, and locks-in financial sustainability. The bill also includes climate and labor standards and elected tenant boards with oversight over building management.   A link to attend this virtual event will be emailed upon RSVP to https://actionnetwork.org/events/social-housing-organizing-meeting-2-2?link_id=48&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-october-13-2023-2&email_referrer=email_2093195&email_subject=metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-october-27-2023

] –  On Thurs., Nov. 2 from 6 to 7:30 PM ET, the Declaration for American Democracy Coalition is holding a Vote Early Text-A-Thon in community with democracy advocates! Election Day is around the corner! Join for a training and text bank to help voters across the country make a plan to vote! Our voice is our vote! Early voting is an important resource in helping all of us make it to the polls to cast our ballots. Learn more about how to make your online communication more effective. This will be the second session in our new Nuts and Bolts training series. 49] –Massachusetts Peace Action [info@masspeaceaction.org] is inviting you to a webinar on Thurs., Nov. 2 at 8 PM ET -- "Running Up to War Against China," presented by the War Industry Resistors Network.  I am member of the network and hope to attend the webinar.  However, the name of the webinar is totally off base.  The Biden administration does not want war with China.  Neither does the Pentagon.  Even the weapons contractors do not want a war with China.  Northrop-Grumman and the others do want tensions and claims of warmongering in order to sell weapons.  Biden is meeting with Xi, all kinds of U.S. delegations are visiting with China, and some Chinese officials are calling for the two countries to deal tighter with climate chaos, for example, in this webinar, the speaker K.J. Noh will provide the analysis, and will say the root cause is US imperialism.  What about Chinese imperialism?  As you might notice, I am disappointed with the organizers of this webinar.  Nevertheless, you can register at https://secure.everyaction.com/8oCZfbzjr0mMze2zriI0hw2?contactdata=MLkfKxx7eoiDao3S007lf9BFYSOVVme9KWq%2ffl9DPuyvvgQVXyuUV%2fm63W%2fEZMjGG+VWgHkdeKWd%2fMQANEXPOMkawSYtBrdc8p9%2fymdjK7BvfenKRWB8fptdZiscUQDdG0zlYm+etycz%2fUdYvDn7ilP6mPvtJ471ZcAAxtqAGvIizSSVbnS%2fy%2f7n+xTPjg5f8mg9X05Oap5NLj04%2fl10hsREmZYxWH8oEn+27fNI0YVAyvREiP4hwxikSo+Ao1MFNnE%2f5kr9BAl237HekaRlz%2fmL1Yjt5Ss6uSyw5nJCTdPIX4Zbkd%2foseiXK0d37sHpH44RvdHiPCtftKVt%2fmEngQ%3d%3d&emci=3afb7c03-dc75-ee11-b004-00224832eb73&emdi=f42cc732-5c76-ee11-b004-00224832eb73&ceid=269591
