2] – To obtain information how your federal legislators voted on particular bills, go to http://thomas.loc.gov/.  Congressional toll-free numbers are 888-818-6641, 888-355-3588 or 800-426-8073.

 

3] – THE ORGANIZING LIST will be the primary decision-making mechanism of the National Campaign of Nonviolent Resistance [NCNR].  It will be augmented by conference calls and possibly in-person meetings as needed.  It will consist of 1 or 2 representatives from each local, regional, or national organization (not coalitions) that wishes to actively work to carry out the NCNR campaign of facilitating and organizing nonviolent resistance to the war in Iraq.

 

To join the ORGANIZING List, please send your name, group affiliation, city and email address to donmuller@msn.com.  Different local chapters of a national organization are encouraged to subscribe.  

 

THE NOTICES LIST will include only notices of NCNR actions and related information and is open to any interested person to subscribe.  It will be moderated to maintain focus & will include periodic notices about getting involved in NCNR national organizing.  To join the NOTICES List, send an email message to ncnrnotices-subscribe@lists.riseup.net. 5] – Brad Hathaway spearheads an effort to sell donated used stamps to raise money for different humanitarian causes around the world. Go to www.mattapoisettquakers.org, and click the link for the stamp ministry.  Carefully clip canceled postage stamps and send to Quaker Missions, PO Box 795, Mattapoisett, MA 02739. Send no small flag stamps or Liberty Bell Forever stamps.

6] – The ASPCA is in need of cat carriers in its cat room in the adoption center. The organization is also seeking items for the upcoming Shop-a-Paw-Looza, the October online auction. Some ideas would be gift certificates, tickets to sporting and other events, sports memorabilia, travel packages and vacation home rentals. 7] – The Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore hosts an End the War! End the Occupation! rally on Thurs., Oct. 1 from 5 to 6:30 PM in Mount Vernon at Centre & Charles Sts.  The Pledge gathers in Mount Vernon on the first Thursday of the month to protest the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Call Max at 410-366-1637.

8] – The Campaign for America's Future is sponsoring the Wrecking Crew book event and signing with author Thomas Frank, also with David Donnelly from Public Campaign Action Fund leading a panel of respondents.  The event takes place on Thurs., Oct. 1 at 5:30 PM at the National Education Association Auditorium, 1201 16th St., NW, WDC.  RSVP by noon on Mon., Sept. 29 at https://caf.democracyinaction.org/o/11002/t/43/l/eng/p/salsa/event/common/public/?event_KEY=37

9] – There is a Friends of Sabeel Conference Pursue Justice--Seek Peace Framing the Discourse - Mobilizing for Action from Thurs., Oct 1 through Sat., Oct. 3 at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 1500 Ninth St., NW, WDC. This is a groundbreaking conference on peace and justice in the Holy Land, and participants will learn how the US civil rights movement and the South African experiences can speak to Palestine today.  To register, call 503-653-6625 with a Visa credit card or MasterCard. 10] – PeaceAction Montgomery, meets every first Thursday, next on Oct. 1, at 7 PM at the Cedar Lane Unitarian Church, Room 16 in the basement, 9601 Cedar Lane, Bethesda, Maryland 20814-4099.

11] – There will be an informal report back from Pittsburgh on Thurs., Oct. 1 at 7 PM at the Solidarity Center, 2011 N. 12] – The Crabshell Alliance will meet on Thurs., Oct. 1 at 7:30 PM in a private home.  Call Max at 410-366-1637 for directions.  Meetings will take place the first Thursday of the month.  The mission of the Crabshell Alliance is to stop the construction of new nuclear power plants in Maryland, promote clean, safe, sustainable, and affordable energy, and educate the public about the hazards of nuclear power.

 

13] – On Thurs., Oct. 1 from 7:30 to 9:30 PM, the third session in a six-week series Engaging Our Conflicts: An Exploration of Nonviolent Peacemaking” takes place.  This is a Just Faith module based on Pace E Bene’s ENGAGE program.  This group will meet each Thursday evening through Nov. 5 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Muncaster Mill Rd., Derwood, MD.  To register, call or email Charles McCarthy, director of Social Concerns at St. Francis at 301-840-1407 or cmccarthy@sfadw.org.

16] – A peace vigil takes place every Friday from noon to 1 PM on Pennsylvania Ave., by the press gate to the White House. It is organized by the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker. Call 202-882-9649.

 

17] – A vigil for Justice in Palestine/Israel (now in its 8th year) takes place every Friday from noon to 1 PM at 19th & JFK Blvd., Philadelphia (across from Israeli Consulate.  It is sponsored by Bubbies & Zaydes (Grandparents) for Peace in the Middle East. 18] – There is a peace vigil to support the Congo every Friday, 4 to 6:30 PM at the Rwandan Embassy, 1714 New Hampshire Ave, NW.  Call the Rwandan Embassy at 202-232-2882 and register your concern about Rwanda's aggression towards the Congo.

19] – On Fri., Oct 2 & Sat. Oct. 3, there will be a conference at Georgetown Law School entitled "Who Decides About War?" Some of the speakers are Phyllis Bennis, Institute for Policy Studies, Prof. Marjorie Cohn, president, National Lawyers Guild, Mort Halperin, senior adviser, Open Society Institute, keynote speaker, John Nichols, Esq., The Nation magazine and Jeremy Scahill, author, Blackwater, keynote speaker. 20] – There is a silent vigil on Fri., Oct. 2 from 5 to 6 PM outside of Homewood Friends Meeting, 3107 N. Charles St., in opposition to war with Iraq. Placards say: "War Is Not the Answer." The silent vigil is sponsored by AFSC, Homewood Friends and Stony Run Meetings.

21] –  Attend the UDC Justice Cafe from 6 to 10 PM on Fri., Oct. 2 in the Firebird Inn, Building 39, B-Level, 4200 Conn. Ave. NW, WDC 20008, which is hosted by the University of the District of Columbia David Clarke School of Law.  The suggested donation is $15, $10 for students and $5 for children. 23] – October 2-4: The Baltimore Rock Opera presents Grundlehammer at 2640 St. Paul St. from Fri., Oct. 2 through Sun., Oct. 4.  This is an entirely original, medieval, fantasy rock opera that combines completely ridiculous stage theatrics with great live music - and a 7-piece metal band. 24] – On Fri., Oct. 2 watch Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, which is being shown as part of the "JUST-REEL” First Friday Free Film Series at the Peace Center of Delaware County, 7 PM,  1001 Old Sproul Road, Springfield, Delaware County. 25] –  There is an opportunity to participate in ballroom dancing, usually every Friday of the month, in the JHU ROTC Bldg. at 8 PM.  Turn south on San Martin Dr. from the intersection of Univ.
