37] – There will be a meeting from 1:30 to 4:30 PM in Room A-5 at the MLK Library, 901 G St NW, Room A-5 (Gallery Place/Chinatown), on Sat., Dec. 6 in Washington, D.C. The agenda items are the MD State Police spying, D.C. Metro bag searches and police checkpoints in Washington.  Medea Benjamin, Nadine Bloch and Pat Elder, named “terrorists,” and from the ACLU, David Rocah and Mike German, have been asked to be part of the one-hour panel discussion.  The other two hours are for break-outs to brainstorm strategies and tactics, and come to some agreement on where to focus energies.  

38] – On Sat., Dec. 6 at 4 PM, there will be a Christmas procession in solidarity with the people of occupied Bethlehem. Gather at the corner of 14th St. and Constitution Ave. NW (near the Washington Monument). Mary and Joseph with a donkey will lead a candle-lit procession around the White House and national Christmas tree on the Ellipse.

 

39] – The 11TH ANNUAL HUMAN RIGHTS POTLUCK DINNER will commemorate the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and honor the memory of the late Bob Steiner and Don Carroll, peace and social justice activists in Howard County on Sat., Dec. 6 from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.  There are several sponsors for the evening, including Howard County Friends of Latin America. There will be a potluck dinner and live music from around the world.  Bring a main dish to share at the Florence Bain Senior Center, 5470 Ruth Keaton Way, Columbia, MD 21044.  The performers are as follows: Rev. Anthony Brown who will perform songs of “hope and inspiration;’ Rev. Simon Bautista Betances, who will do traditional Haitian songs; Jay Kishor who brings his sitar background to his guitar playing; and Rumisonko, a Latin American folk ensemble.

40] – On Sat., Dec. 6 at 7 PM, the Emergence Community Arts Collective, 733 Euclid St. NW, WDC will perform "I Am Who Survived" A Mixed Media Performance about soldiers returning from war.  The performance will honor the winter soldiers. There is a request for a $5-10 donation to benefit Nick Morgan, a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War DC Chapter, who was trampled by a police horse and severely injured while peacefully demonstrating. The evening will include a discussion with members of Iraq Veterans Against the War and the artists.  Email outofiraq@riseup.net.

41] – The DC Labor Chorus will perform An Evening of Favorite and Sacred Songs on Sat., Dec. 6 at 7:30 PM at the National Labor College, Bldg. 8, 10000 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring.  Now in its eleventh year, the Chorus sings an exciting mix of inspirational songs from many different traditions. Selections range from Broadway (“Sing Me a Song of Social Significance”) to the South African freedom movement (“Asikatali”). This year’s concert features guest performers from the newly-formed Charm City Labor Chorus and students from DC’s Alexander Shepherd Elementary School. The College is just north of the Beltway. 42] –   Alan Barysh will be giving tours at the Baltimore Museum of Industry every Sunday in December [7, 14, 21 & 28]. The museum opens at 11 AM, and tours last about an hour. 48] – The film MEETING RESISTANCE will have its Baltimore premiere on Sun., Dec. 7 at 4 PM at 2640 St. Paul St. The documentary features interviews with Iraqis who are resisting the U.S. occupation.  The sponsoring organization Directly Confronting the Occupation in Iraq has invited Dr. Sami AiBanna, born and raised in Iraq, to provide a historical reference after the screening. 49] – PAX CHRISTI BALTIMORE resumes its 2008 ADVENT PRAYER SERIES.  On Sun., Dec. 7, Rev. Robert Albright, author of SPIRITUAL READING FOR THE AVERAGE CHRISTIAN, will advocate for better Christian-Jewish relations.  The series continues on Dec. 14 and 21. This annual prayer series, at the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart Chapel, 1001 W.  Filmmaker Sue Harris tells the story of young soldiers who came home from Iraq suffering from exposure to depleted uranium.  One veteran's young daughter has a birth defect strikingly similar to those suffered by many Iraqi children. Also interviewed are former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, New York Daily News reporter Juan Gonzalez, noted physicist Michio Kaku, Dr. Rosalie Bertell, Dr. Helen Caldicott and Major Doug Rokke- the former U.S. Army DU Project head.
