Come to the first gathering of the New Member Welcome Committee. Reach out to people who just joined the MDC DSA chapter to connect with them and let them know how to get plugged in. This would be a great way to dip your toes in to MDC DSA chapter internal organizing! For new members, by new members!  The first 30 minutes will be devoted getting you acquainted with campaigns and Frequently Asked Questions to expect. There will also be two people available to answer questions that may come up!  Come get oriented to the chapter and help us with outreach to the many folks who are joining in the wake of Democrats' utter dumpster fire failure.

15] – On Tuesdays, Dec. 3, 10 & 17  from 6 to 9 PM ET, get with Showing Up for Racial Justice for a virtual Phone Bank to grow the movement on Turnout Tuesdays. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/607244/?followup_modal_context=nonexclusive_newsletter_more_events_of_type

Build the movement by calling SURJ members and supporters to invite them into the fight for racial justice. There is a need to not only take action ourselves, but also to invite our people to take action too! Gather each Tuesday to call white people across the country who are looking for their place to plug in and get involved in the fight for racial justice!  Each Turnout Tuesday starts with a complete training so you have everything you need to make calls! All you need is yourself and a device to make calls.

18] – The Campaign for Peace, Disarmament & Common Security [joseph@cpdcs.ccsend.com] on Tues., Dec. 3 at 7 PM ET for an UPDATE- FROM CRISIS TO ACTION: Building an Ecosystem of Defense and Change. This is an online workshop with organizer/scholar Nick Rabb for a series of webinars to help defend those and that which must be defended and to work for life affirming changes. The recent election result marks a pivotal moment for U.S. politics and our collective ability to bring about justice, secure rights, and improve our lives. It is a time of strong emotion, grief, fear, anxiety, perhaps numbness. Many of us may naturally feel driven to plan and take steps towards action, but in the face of the shifting political landscape and overwhelming feelings, feel stuck. Others of us who have been already taking action may be wondering how to move forward and make our political work more effective or more appropriate for our new political landscape.

This nonlinear series of workshops is designed to help us move forward: process these feelings in community, analyze the current moment and plan for what may come, ask critical questions about how we’ve been operating thus far, and share frameworks and tools for acting politically in the new landscape. You can attend any of the workshops without having been to the others. The topics and activities we will cover are crucial for those unfamiliar with how we all can take political action, but also useful for those experienced in social change work. Based on what you are interested in, you can pick and choose which to attend.

The First Workshop "Processing this Moment" will open space for us to process our thoughts and feelings about the recent U.S. election results. Using a mix of activities and group discussion, we will dig deep into our reactions as well as hear those of others.  Additionally, this workshop will lay out some of the central questions motivating the entire series: How do we defend ourselves against what’s coming? How do we think about making change given our current political landscape? What can we learn from past years of political efforts, and how can we use that knowledge to change our current work?  Register at https://calstatela.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIvceigrzsrEtfy8d9x-dsOtis3Tz-ZcmDm#/registration

19] – Defend Trans Freedom on Wed., Dec. 4 from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the US Supreme Court, 1 First St NE, WDC 20543. Email bawg@mdcdsa.org

Trans rights have been under ever increasing attack from right wing forces who seek to deny identifies, rights and dignity. In the last weeks, the emboldened fascist GOP attacked Sarah McBride, the first Trans woman elected to federal office, and announced a federal bathroom bill. Stand up and fight to defend Trans freedom!  On December 4th, the US Supreme Court will be hearing arguments in United States v. Skrmetti, the challenge to the Tennessee law banning gender affirming health care for Tran’s kids. ACLU lawyer Chase Strangio will be arguing the case for the plaintiffs challenging the ban. Organizers have assembled a rally outside the Court. RSVP at https://actionnetwork.org/events/mdcdsa-defend-trans-freedom?link_id=4&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-november-22-2024&email_referrer=email_2544843&email_subject=metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-november-29-2024
