26] – On Dec. 17 at 1 PM ET, join Combatants for Peace Palestinian co-founder Souli Khatib, Israel co-founder Avner Wishnitzer, Iranian-Swiss B8 of Hope founder Mehra Rimer, and American Friends CFP Executive Director Tiffany Goodwin-Van Cam for an important and final 2024 CollectiveEd event. As a challenging year comes to a close, there is ongoing devastation and the emergence of new challenges. The year ends without a ceasefire, with a horrific humanitarian crisis in Gaza, unreturned hostages, the deepening occupation in the West Bank, and the rise of extremist leadership in multiple countries, including the US. The need for global solidarity and the work toward collective liberation has never been clearer.  Please register to receive a link to the recording. https://secure.everyaction.com/onzRvD3n5ES8nN71IOJqGQ2?contactdata=F7e8i+0OmLn1d9cJlk3uGxP%2fG8bXVh1dsCc1HRroKJAkBKUGzDLUpLPzKkyPbEQWz%2fX%2frXkgiU2gBtU6KkjKQMwOtTofwkro+AujbsCyIuVb%2fS9G0sYaev5LAObFOJeHlnEGU4WFv1m5xfyD9SEPVNMoBKRiMMq8jWGUaXmtwakjsiVFd8RbIl5+UvyC1QwZD4Kxvhr3WeXe4u+GiZ9Iu9LWEzG4xbrZHgAsF1R%2fKWadqxFEVHqNJefN++W%2fs4LKVaW3z9Ld2+0rMpeTJRTo9Q%3d%3d&emci=04436165-78b6-ef11-88d0-000d3a9d5840&emdi=4fa7a828-0fb7-ef11-88d0-000d3a9d5840&ceid=8142762

RSVP at https://actionnetwork.org/events/roots-of-armed-struggle-in-the-philippines-with-ichrp?clear_id=true&link_id=23&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-nova-branch-dsa-upcoming-actions-and-events-187&email_referrer=email_2543127&email_subject=nova-branch-dsa-upcoming-actions-and-events

Meet at the MLK Library, 901 G St. NW, WDC 20001 US. Learn about and discuss the roots of the civil war in the Philippines! Why has a peasant guerilla army persisted in armed struggle for more than 50 years despite successive “total war” strategies of US puppet governments to crush it? How does US backed counter-insurgency against the Left create a state of de-facto martial law in the Philippines? Why has the Philippines remained under US domination for more than a century? How can we defend human rights in the Philippines under assault by the US-Marcos regime? These questions and more we will answer together in December.

30] –ACLU People Power [peoplepower@aclu.org] on Tues., Dec. 17 at 8 PM will hold a People Power Action Call.  The incoming Trump administration has identified mass deportations as a priority for day one—meaning the safety of millions of families is on the line. The Call is focused on immigration, featuring ACLU leadership who will share details on what to expect next year and how you can help.  RSVP at https://act.aclu.org/a/2024-december-action-call?emci=191c653d-6eb6-ef11-88d0-000d3a9d5840&emdi=a2f10f4a-1ab7-ef11-88d0-000d3a9d5840&ceid=3280038

31] –Scientists for Palestine [admin@scientists4palestine.com] on Wed., Dec. 18 at noon ET are hosting a lecture The Israeli Society and the War with Orly Noy. Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIpd-2trTkoH9YgOZm0XNcpa2icd9bGz7gR#/registration

The genocidal war waged by Israel against Gaza, in the wake of Hamas’ attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, seems to be backed by large sections within the Zionist margins in Israel. Even the political opposition to Netanyahu’s extreme right-wing government has been supportive of the war. Liberal citizens who, a couple of years ago, filled the streets in vocal demonstrations against a judicial reform, have rarely objected to the war and when they did criticize it, they focused mainly on the painful neglect of the Israeli hostages. Anat Matar, member of the BLS Steering Committee and senior lecturer of philosophy at Tel Aviv University, will discuss the current mindset of the Israeli society with Orly Noy, an Israeli journalist, translator and activist.

32] – The Free Migration Project  [fmp@freemigrate.org] on Thurs., Dec. 18 from 2 to 5 PM ET wants you to join the March to Defend Immigrant Lives at the Liberty Bell, 510 Chestnut St., Philadelphia.  Join Philadelphia immigrants’ rights movement leaders for a rally and march for immigrant, migrant and refugees' lives. The Trump administration plans to expand immigrant detention, deputizing local law enforcement and the military to execute mass raids and deportations, de-naturalizing immigrant citizens and ending birthright citizenship. Biden must not make the mistakes of the past, demand that the Biden/Harris administration does not hand over an expanded detention and deportation system to Trump. The Biden administration must dismantle as much of the deportation machine as possible before inauguration day.  RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/march-for-immigrant-lives-tickets-1087245363149?aff=oddtdtcreator&link_id=2&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-join-the-march-to-defend-immigrant-lives&email_referrer=email_2558787&email_subject=join-the-march-to-defend-immigrant-lives

33] – Ploughshares [events@ploughshares.org] on Thurs., Dec. 18 from 3 to 4 PM ET wants you to register for Folly Old Saint Nukes. This is an Unmute Yourself event that promises to be educational as it is festive.  Chat with Ploughshares grantee Alex Wellerstein—historian of science and nuclear technology and inventor of NukeMap. Yes, the very tool that lets you simulate a nuclear detonation anywhere on Earth. Get a break down how the next administration might shape nuclear weapons policy and the long-term global impacts of today’s nuclear decisions. Share how to broach the delicate topic of nuclear weapons at your next holiday party or dinner table. Register at https://ploughshares-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_YoA30j6nR7CM8pfibZ7UuQ#/registration
