-------

16] – Jessica Reznicek has served three years and four months of an eight year sentence. Her clemency attorney indicated that he is going to file for her clemency after the election. Jess has a Prison Fund. The fund has provided a few thousand dollars to Jess’s inmates’ friends on the outside and $400 a month to Jess so she can keep doing good deeds on the inside. You can send checks to the Des Moines Catholic Worker – with a note: for Jess’s Prison Fund-- Des Moines Catholic Worker, PO Box 4551, Des Moines IA 50305. You can still write to Jess: Jessica Reznicek #19293-030, FCI Waseca, PO BOX 1731, Waseca, MN 56093. You can contact Catholic Worker Frank Cordaro at 515 490 2490 / frank.cordaro@gmail.com

Operation Linebacker II, sometimes referred to as the Christmas bombings and, in Vietnam, Dien Bien Phu in the air, was a strategic bombing campaign conducted by the United States against targets in North Vietnam from 18 December to 29 December 1972, during the Vietnam War. More than 20,000 tons of ordnance was dropped on military and industrial areas in Hanoi and Haiphong and at least 1,624 civilians were killed. The operation was the final major military operation carried out by the U.S. during the conflict, and the largest bombing campaign involving heavy bombers since World War II. More or less you will receive the book.  Barry and the team have spent over two years putting this book together. It begins with outlines and notes found in the boxes of materials Murphy left when she ascended. The work is a work of love, and all involved are proud of the fruit borne by seeds nourished in good soil.

To order by postal mail, make your check to Open Door Community.  Send it to Open Door Community, PO Box 10980, Baltimore 21234.  For any questions, contact David Payne at 404-290-2047 or davidpayne@opendoorcommunity.org.

5] – Another book to consider purchasing is Male Supremacy in the Catholic Church: An Insider’s View by Roy Bourgeois. His new book is both memoir and position-paper, and it makes the case that the Roman Catholic Church is a corrupt system that spits out truth-tellers. The crime he was excommunicated for was attending the ordination ceremony of Janice Sevre-Duszynska in Lexington, Kentucky, in August 2008. The ordination was under the auspices of the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests.  The Vatican’s response has been to excommunicate any woman who has the audacity to see herself as a priest equal to a male priest. You can purchase a copy from Amazon or by Kindle.

Here are two quotes to contemplate: “I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men. She is to keep silent.” – Timothy 1, 2:12-13.  “If the patriarchy that dominates the church is not dismantled and women are not treated as equals, the church will continue to diminish and, eventually, die.” – Roy Bourgeois.

6] – A home in Baltimore is for sale on a dead-end street in the Lauraville neighborhood, with three bedrooms, and one bath. The yard backs into a field and then a forest. There is a serene and quiet setting with an abundance of wildlife. The owner will be asking a reasonable amount for the property but it will not be overpriced. Contact her by text only at 443 500 6733. On the text, leave your name and phone number, and she will get back to anyone that reaches out.

7] – Please join in on Sat., Dec. 21 at 4 PM ET for a conversation with Janice Sevre-Duszynska and Max Obuszewski about their recent arrest and trial for speaking out against the genocide in Gaza. The talk will be followed by a potluck dinner to honor their efforts.  Be at the One Body Catholic Worker (Home of Suzanne and Jeff), 515 Collins Ave., Baltimore 21229 (1 block from Mount St. Joseph HS.) Contact Jeff and Suzanne with questions by texting to 443-690-4060.

9] The Progressive Democrats of America [info@pdamerica.org] on Sun., Dec. 22 at 4 PM ET will hold its weekly Town Hall Winning the Future with Young Progressive Democrats of America. Learn about PDA's most important project for 2025: the growth and development of Young Progressive Democrats of America (YPDA). The documentary is about the 100-year struggle for constitutional gender equality, followed by a discussion on how you can take action to help get the ERA over the finish line.  There is a bipartisan effort to make Virginia the 38th state (the last one needed) to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. 54] –Jewish Voice for Peace is doing a Power Half-Hour for Gaza: Channel grief & outrage into action to stop a genocide.  A year into the genocide in Gaza, we are overwhelmed with sorrow and rage. There are no words to describe the devastating pain of the past year in which the Israeli military has killed over 44,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 17,000 children. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court have both declared that Israel must stop the genocidal acts being committed on the Palestinian people. And the U.S. government is actively supporting the Israeli military as it wreaks devastation on the over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. JVP continues to come together as a political community in its daily half-hour to take action, Monday through Friday, for the past year. Join in and take collective action to demand an arms embargo to Israel, immediate end to the genocide, a lasting ceasefire and an end to Israeli siege, apartheid, occupation, and oppression of Palestinians and Lebanon. Email social.housing.wg@gmail.com

The legislation proposes to create mixed-income, district-owned housing with market rate units that subsidize a larger number of affordable units. It's a pioneering approach that deepens affordability, invests surplus funds into the creation of more social housing, and locks-in financial sustainability. The bill also includes climate and labor standards and elected tenant boards with oversight over building management. This event is open to both DSA members and supporters. Merri Ansara, who has been traveling to Cuba since 1969 and for 20 years ran Common Ground Education and Travel sending thousands of people to Cuba as individuals or in groups, will outline the US regulations, the Cuban parameters, how to get there, where to stay, how to get around -- and answer any of your questions. Over 400 days into the U.S.-backed, Israeli genocide of Palestinians, none of us pictured we’d still be here. If you’re feeling hopeless, or uncertain about how we move forward together once Trump takes office — you’re not alone. It’s more critical than ever that we come together: to understand the shifting terrain, get clear on strategy, and get organized for the next phase of the work.

46] -- On Thurs., Dec. 19  from 7:30 to 9 PM ET, Progressive Maryland wants you to get involved with the Kentland Neighborhood Union: Organizing for 2025 at 4500 Forbes Blvd., Suite 200, Lanham, MD 20706.  RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/746708/?followup_modal_context=nonexclusive_newsletter_more_events_from_org

After the Trump election, it is clear how wealthy millionaires and billionaires who manipulate the tax code do not have our best interest in mind! Gather together as a Greater Kentland community to plan the next moves. Discuss URGENT community issues and strategize on how to win real change for the communities--both at the local level and state level. Come and set the priorities for the Neighborhood Union and how you can take action in preparation for the legislative session!  While the efforts to prevent Trump's election fell short by an estimated 229,766 votes in three states, the collective actions of millions of people made the difference in many important races across the country. In states where Progressive Maryland focused its efforts, the margins were far tighter than the national average, helping Democrats win races decided by less than 1%. These victories are crucial as they gear up for the challenges ahead.

47] -- Pax Christi USA on Thurs., Dec. 19 at 8 PM ET will hold its final quarterly PAX Mass of 2024! Pray for peace throughout the war-riven world, with special intentions for the people of Gaza who have suffered due to economic blockades and military occupation for decades, even more intensely and violently in the past 14 months. The celebrant will be Bishop John Stowe, Pax Christi USA's bishop president.  Zoom will send out a link to everyone who is registered: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMvd-GsqTsiHdL78RwZKXNJb9f59clCC3vn#/registration

48] --RootsAction Team [info@rootsaction.org] on Thurs., Dec. 19 at 8 PM ET invites you to register for the free livestream on Dec. 19 featuring the author of the new book Flights: Radicals on the Run. Joel Whitney sketches the lives of dissidents and writers who stood in the way of war making. Told through the lives of talented and stubborn dissidents in “the American Century,” Flights is the archetypal hero’s journey of a group of progressives whose struggle for truth, and for freedom from persecution, sent them into exile. Joel will be in conversation with RootsAction national director Norman Solomon, author of War Made Invisible: How America Hides the Human Toll of Its Military Machine. Two writers who greatly value each other’s work will be discussing their latest books in a free livestream sponsored by the RootsAction Education Fund.  In Solomon's book, he examines one of the most consequential and enduring components of American foreign policy: the forever war. 38]On Wed., Dec. 18 at 8 PM ET, CODEPINK will hold a Local Peace Economy Gathering. In this session, Aerin Dunford, will explore how we can practice being with and listening to grief as a force that infuses all of our lives and not as something that we need to heal, change, or fix.  As we move from the war economy to the peace economy, grief arises as we realize what has been stolen from our lives. Many of us learned to turn away from pain and the feelings that arise when we face our complicity, our own mortality, and the possibility of loss.  In this session, Dunford, will explore how we can practice being with and listening to grief as a force that infuses all of our lives… and not as something that we need to heal, change, or fix. She is the Lead Weaver at The Emergence Network where she cultivates the ground for experiments and practice around the notion of "post-activism." She asks poignant questions about the way that humans respond to crisis. Aerin has a master’s degree in Organizational Management with a focus on leadership and change from SIT Graduate Institute. She lives in Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico. RSVP at https://www.codepink.org/lpe1218?utm_campaign=december_2024_member_newslette&utm_medium=email&utm_source=codepink
