Join the Baltimore Nonviolence Center and groups around the country calling upon our government to end its support for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in the 7 year war against the people of Yemen. Many of the actions will take place on March 1 and will call upon Congress to Introduce a War Powers Resolution Now!
On Tues., March 1 from 4:30 to 5:30 PM ET, gather at 33rd
and North Charles Streets, Baltimore. The United Nations has
declared Yemen to be suffering from the worst humanitarian crisis in the
world. We will demand that the Port of Baltimore stop loading weapons on
Saudi Arabian ships. Contact Max at

WHY: On February 7, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, the
chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and Rep. Peter DeFazio, announced in The Nation their intention to
introduce a Yemen War Powers Resolution by March 25 to end U.S.
participation in the catastrophic war on Yemen. As the U.S. moves closer to war
with Russia, activists are calling for peace and an end to unilateral,
unconstitutional wars. Specifically, they are calling on representatives in the
House to cosponsor a Yemen War Powers Resolution. This resolution would force a
vote on the Senate floor to end U.S. participation in the conflict.
QUOTES FROM RALLY ORGANIZERS:
“The Saudi-UAE-led assault on Yemen would not be possible without
US spare parts and US provided maintenance to the Saudi Royal Air Force.
Congress has the responsibility to pass a new War Powers Resolution that cuts
off the remaining support to the coalition and holds Biden accountable for his
complete lack of action.”
– Danaka Katovich, National Organizer, CODEPINK
“The Saudi-UAE aggression on Yemen that the U.S. is supporting has
been extremely effective in ruining the lives of Yemenis around the world. In
one night alone, the Saudi-UAE coalition killed over 70 civilians with U.S.
weapons, blacked out the country’s internet access for 4 days, and damaged the
homes of many innocents. 7 years into this airstrike campaign, 4 million
Yemenis have been forced to flee their families, homes, and communities with no
end in sight.”
– Neda Saleh, Coordinator, Action Corps
“Without U.S. support, Saudi Arabia would not be able to conduct
its daily bombings on Yemen. Our weapons sales and on-going maintenance
contracts with the Saudi Air Force directly implicate Americans in the
starvation and deaths of a quarter million Yemenis. Because other legislative
paths have failed, only a War Powers Resolution will end U.S. support for this
devastating war.”
– Annelle Sheline, Research Fellow for the Middle East, Quincy
Institute
“No amount of harsh rhetoric from Congress will stop Saudi
Arabia’s unchecked violence in Yemen. Representatives and Senators who want
real accountability and real change must support a new Yemen War Powers
Resolution to end all US military support for Saudi war crimes. By forcing more
votes to end unconstitutional US involvement, Congress can do its part to bring
this devastating conflict to an end.”
– Hassan El-Tayyab, Legislative Director for Middle East Policy,
FCNL
