5] – What are our "voting rights?"  Why does it continue to be a dangerous business to register to vote in the United States of America? This film is about the disturbing parallels between the vote-suppressing tactics of the Jim Crow era and those expanding tactics being used TODAY.  What can you do to help change this?  For starters....learn the history you were never taught. This is a new documentary from Director and Producer Gavin Guerra....doubtful you've seen and heard all this information put together in one film.  To watch the video for FREE though Sunday, Sept. 20, visit https://vimeo.com/430148296.  Use the password= VOTE2020!

6] – On Sun., Sept. 20 from 8:15 to 10:30 AM, Walk for Change in Old Town, Alexandria.  Start at Misha's Coffeehouse, 102 S. Patrick St., Alexandria, VA 22314. Every Morning, Walk. 7] - Usually, the Baltimore Ethical Society, 2521 St. Paul St., Baltimore 21218, meets on Sundays, and generally there is a speaker and discussion at 10:30 AM.  On Sun., Sept. 20, the platform address is “The Turning of the Year.” This is a time of a turning of the year. Rosh Hashanah or the New Year in the Jewish calendar. Fall Equinox. A mid-harvest festival time. Mabon in Celtic and pagan cultures.  Near the end of the first month, Muharram, of the Islamic calendar. What about the seasons, the cycles of the year, is relevant to the lives even for modern people?  How does recognizing the passage through the seasons center us, motivate us, and help us manage our journey through life?  How do seasonal celebrations renew and invigorate us? Jone Johnson Lewis, Leader of the Society, will reflect on some of these questions. Consider the International Day of Peace, and the peace pole on the property. Email ask@bmorethical.org. Visit https://bmorethical.org/?post_type=dd_events&p=4228.

8] – On Sun., Sept. 20 from 2 to 4 PM, catch Defiance, Murder, and Treason: Christiana Resistance of 1851, hosted by the Historical Society of Baltimore County.  Sign up for historicalsocbaltoco.ticketspice.com/2020-sept-20-christiana.  On September 11, 1851, a posse of white men led by a United States Marshal attempted to recapture enslaved men in Christiana, Pennsylvania who fled from a Baltimore County farm owned by Edward Gorsuch. The fugitives resisted capture and escaped to Canada, but the incident left Gorsuch dead. Local witnesses who did not assist with the capture of the enslaved men were charged with treason because they were in violation of the Fugitive Slave Law. The incident made national news and has been considered by some historians to be the first bloodshed of the Civil War. This presentation examines the reactions of Marylanders to this act of resistance.

Debbie Harner is the Public Services and Education Archivist in Special Collections and Archives at Goucher College. She previously worked at the Maryland Historical Society as the Associate Editor of Maryland Historical Magazine. She received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in history from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. 10] – According to the Sunrise Movement Baltimore [general@sunrisemovementbaltimore.org], Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones and Senate President Bill Ferguson came to the action on Sept. 16 in Annapolis calling for a special session, but ultimately said they are unwilling to convene an emergency special session and that the concerns of essential workers, renters, and HBCU advocates would just have to wait until January.   Join a phone bank on Sun., Sept. 20 from 2 to 3:30 PM, to reach voters in Speaker Jones and President Ferguson’s districts. What are the necessary steps that Seoul and Washington should take to reduce the strategic risks in the coming months and years?
