Can you sign these letters?/Can you help deliver either letter?

Friends,

Can you sign on to both letters—to Ben Cardin & John Sarbanes?  Can you help deliver one or both letters? Best wishes.

Kagiso,

Max

Dear Representative Sarbanes:

Members of the Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore are voters and supporters of Progressive Democrats of America. Some of us live in District 3. We call upon you to join with us in belatedly celebrating Mothers’ Day by facilitating the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). The ERA would end inequality under law “on account of sex.” With Memorial Day approaching, please remember the tragedy of war and its consequences.  Let us defend democracy against those who buy elections and support an economy which benefits those in need,. This can be done by supporting legislation to clean up elections, and by opposing the job-killing Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as well as the undemocratic “Fast Track” Trade Promotion Authority (TPA).

We support Fair Trade and the economic benefits gained when nations exchange goods and services. Any trade deal must have a positive impact on U.S. industry, jobs, and incomes—now, and in the future. Trade agreements must not benefit special interests at the expense of U.S. families. The TPP fails these tests. Similar deals led to the loss of millions of jobs, added $billions to trade deficits, and forced down U.S. incomes. Therefore the TPP must not pass. Trade Promotion Authority would short circuit House debate and railroad bad deals through Congress for the next six years. Therefore TPA must not pass. Stand up for U.S. families and small businesses by voting down the TPA, the TPP, and any other unfair trade deals.

Please contact Rep. Ted Deutch’s office at 202-225-3001 to cosponsor H.J.Res.22 that states: “To advance democratic self-government and political equality, and to protect the integrity of government and the electoral process, Congress and the States may regulate and set reasonable limits on the raising and spending of money by candidates and others to influence elections.” It’s one person, one vote, not one dollar one vote. Support the effort to clean up elections and protect our democracy.

Also, please contact Rep. Rick Nolan’s office at 202-225-6211 to cosponsor H.J.Res.48: “Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States providing that the rights extended by the Constitution are the rights of natural persons only.” The Democracy for All Amendment would overturn Supreme Court decisions like Citizens United v. FEC to reclaim our political system for “We, the People.”

Further, please contact Rep. Jackie Speier’s office at 202-225-3531 to cosponsor H.J.Res.51: a Joint Resolution to remove the arbitrary deadline for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). For centuries, stereotypes have placed American women and girls—and in some cases men and boys—at significant legal, economic, and political disadvantage. Women and girls especially face unfair legal and economic discrimination. This injustice must end. The ERA simply states: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

Finally, we are seeking an end to the use of killer drone strikes, which we believe to be illegal and unconstitutional.  We ask you to speak out against this assassination program, which ignores any veneer of due process.  Consider as well a request for the full, unclassified release of information surrounding the administration’s drone policy.

We look forward to your response. And when you are ready, we would like to meet with you, preferably in Baltimore. But if necessary, we will travel to your D.C. office.  We thank you for your consideration regarding these critically important issues, and look forward to ongoing discussion and engagement with you in the coming months.

 Peace,

Max Obuszewski, on behalf of Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore/Fund Our Communities -- Apt. 206, 431 Notre Dame Lane, Baltimore 21212

Dear Senator Cardin,

Members of the Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore are voters and supporters of Progressive Democrats of America.

We thank you for cosponsoring S.J.Res.15: to remove the arbitrary deadline for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). For centuries, stereotypes have placed American women and girls—and in some cases men and boys—at significant legal, economic, and political disadvantage. Women still face unfair legal and economic discrimination. This injustice must end. The ERA simply states: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” Women have waited far too long for equality.

We support Fair Trade and the economic benefits gained when nations exchange goods and services. Trade deals must have a positive impact on U.S. industry, jobs, and incomes—now, and in the future. Agreements must not benefit special interests at the expense of U.S. families. The TPP fails this test, and therefore must not pass. Similar agreements led to the loss of millions of jobs, added $billions to trade deficits, and forced down incomes. Trade Promotion Authority is like “the Nuclear Option.” It would stifle debate and railroad bad deals through Congress for the next six years. Therefore, it must not pass. Stand up for U.S. families and small businesses by voting down the TPA, the TPP, and other unfair trade deals.

Please contact Sen. Tom Udall's office at 202-224-6621 to cosponsor S.J.Res.5 that states: “To advance democratic self-government and political equality, and to protect the integrity of government and the electoral process, Congress and the States may regulate and set reasonable limits on the raising and spending of money by candidates and others to influence elections.” Last session, a majority of the Senate voted for the Democracy for All Amendment to overturn Supreme Court decisions like Citizens United v. FEC and thereby reclaim our political system for “We, the People.”

Please contact Sen. Bernie Sanders' office at 202-224-5141 to cosponsor S.1206: “A bill to address the concept of ‘Too Big To Fail’ with respect to certain financial entities.” If financial entities are “too big to fail”—and if law violators are “too big to jail”—then these entities are just too big. They threaten our financial stability and our economy, and must be broken up before they trigger another economic crisis.

Peace,
