41] – All across the country, workers are standing together for fair wages. On Tues., May 21, stand with workers in Washington, D.C. at the Ronald Reagan Building, the Smithsonian museums, and Union Station to demand good wages for their hard work. These workers are calling on the President to issue an executive order to make sure federal contractors pay their employees living wages and benefits. With the support of the faith community, we know they will be heard.

On behalf of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, join the following actions: 1] Prayer Vigil at 7.30 AM for Victims of Wage Theft at the Ronald Reagan Building, 13th St. & Pennsylvania Ave. NW; 2] Action at 9.45 AM with Smithsonian Workers at the American History Museum exhibit commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, 1400 Constitution Ave. NW; 3] Action at 11:15 AM with Union Station Workers at A. Phillip Randolph Statute in Union Station/Amtrak corridor inside Union Station & 4] Mass Rally at 12:15 PM with the Union Station Workers in Columbus Circle (in front of Union Station). A new report shows that the Federal Government employs more low-wage workers than Wal-Mart and McDonalds combined. Visit www.goodjobsnation.org or email sam@dcactionlab.com.

Be there on Wed., May 22 to help us support these workers as they go back to work by letting their employers know the community is behind them. These workers are taking a huge risk to speak out and fight for better conditions not only for themselves, but for the millions like them across the nation. Contact MARY CRAYTON at mcrayton11@msn.com or 312-560-3111.

43] – Representatives of the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance hope to file a Criminal Complaint CIA Director John Brennan, and others involved in using killer drones on Tues., May 21. There is a 10:30 AM meeting, which is expected to last one hour. Afterwards, the activists intend to deliver the criminal complaint to the U.S. Attorney's office in Alexandria, VA. In the spring of 2010, Bradley Manning, a 22-year-old Army intelligence analyst, supplied WikiLeaks with classified military documents including the Collateral Murder video, which shows the killing of unarmed civilians and two Reuters journalists by a U.S. Apache helicopter crew in Iraq, as well as the Afghan War Diaries and the Iraq War Logs, and a series of US diplomatic cables. The documents and videos he released to WikiLeaks have illuminated the number and cause of civilian casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan, human rights abuses by the U.S., U.S. contractors and foreign militaries, and the role that spying and bribes play in international diplomacy. skills.

It will be a lively evening of passionate talks and empowering music with Ryan Harvey and others. Go to https://www.facebook.com/events/160673477441404/?fref=ts.

This 65 minute documentary reveals the intensity of the political struggle that led to Canada's universal medical care system, and exposes public relations campaigns that have been prevalent in the U.S. since the early 1900's to dissuade the American public from supporting national health care. The film will be shown on Tues., May 21 from 6 to 9 PM at 45 West McKinsey Road, Severna Park 21146. After the movie, representatives of the Healthcare is a Human Right! Campaign in Maryland will discuss the ongoing work to achieve a truly universal healthcare system, everybody in, nobody out. Go to www.MDSinglePayer.org or email info@mdsinglepayer.org.

50] – On Tues., May 21 from 6:30 to 8 PM, Teaching for Change's Busboys and Poets Bookstore welcomes Gar Alperovitz to discuss and sign his new book ”What Then Must We Do? Straight Talk about the Next American Revolution” and show excerpts from his new film, “The Next American Revolution.” The US political and economic system is seemingly locked into a pattern of stagnation and decay, but there's an emerging possibility for hope, as communities across the country work to develop new solutions and new institutions that democratize wealth, build for long term sustainability, and challenge corporate control. Political economist and historian Gar Alperovitz will lead a discussion on how to organize for a new economy, from the neighborhood level to the national. Copies of the film, as well as Gar's new book "What Then Must We Do?" will be available for sale and signing at Busboys and Poets, 14th and V Sts. NW, WDC in the Langston Room.
