Call 202.338.1958. What happens if all the posters that libraries and museums have historically cataloged under different headings such as Holy Land, State of Palestine, State of Israel, Eretz Israel, Promised Land, and Land of the Bible were organized under a single library heading, the Palestine poster? According to Dan Walsh, founder and archivist of the Palestine Poster Project Archives (PPPA), what emerges is an entirely new genre, one that advances contemporary Middle East scholarship from the high school to the university levels. 53] – The 2005 San José de Apartadó Peace Community Massacre: the Search for Justice is to be discussed on Thurs., May 16 from 12:30 to 2 PM at the Washington Office on Latin America, 1666 Connecticut Ave. NW, Suite 400. The massacre of eight civilians, including three children, was perpetrated by paramilitaries with collaboration of the Colombian military. Human rights lawyer Jorge Molano will discuss recent advances in the case and the many obstacles that remain in the search for justice.
Though a handful of paramilitaries and low-ranking military officials have been convicted, there has been little progress in prosecuting high-ranking officials implicated in the crime. Jorge Molano has tirelessly fought to advance those prosecutions, and has been the subject of multiple threats as a result of his work on this and other cases. He is a Bogotá-based human rights lawyer, who has for many years worked as a lawyer acting on behalf of victims and relatives in several cases of grave human rights violations committed by (mostly) senior level army officers and paramilitaries. In addition to the 2005 massacre case, his cases include the emblematic Palace of Justice disappearances and several extrajudicial execution cases. Visit https://www.facebook.com/events/calendar
