William "Bill" Bickham presente!/98 Challengers and 115 Incumbents Oppose War $

William "Bill" Bickham, father of long time Catholic Worker, Willa
Bickham and Brendan Walsh of Viva House, Baltimore, Md., grandfather
of many including, Kate and Dave Walsh-Little, great grandfather of
many including Maya, Grace, and Julia Walsh-Little, died peacefully on
Friday, October 8th, 2010.  Bill had been receiving amazing hospice
care and was surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren at
his death at the age of 93.  Bill was a long time union activist and
worked for the meat packing industry, Swift Company, all his life.
His hands were the hands of a worker-they could, quite literally,
build anything- from grandfather clocks to dollhouses to house repairs.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning Oct 14 in Chicago.
Please keep Willa and her immediate family-the Moore's, the
Cunniffe's, and the Bickhams, in your prayers.  Thanks so much,
Kate Walsh-Little (daugher of Willa)

98 Challengers and 115 Incumbents Oppose War $

Ninety-eight congressional candidates and 35 national organizations are opposing any more funding for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The 98 candidates are from 29 states and Washington, D.C., and include 33 Greens, 24 Libertarians, 22 Democrats, 6 Independent Greens, 5 Independents, 4 Peace and Freedom Party Members, 2 Republicans, 1 Socialist, and 1 West Virginia Green.

Eighty-five are candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, and 13 for the Senate.

Members of the Coalition Against War Spending do not all agree with each other on many topics, including their reasons for opposing war spending.  But they all back this short statement:

"The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost Americans over $1 trillion in direct costs, and over $3 trillion altogether.  At a time when our national debt exceeds $13 trillion, we can no longer afford these wars.  It's time for Congress to reject any funding except to bring all our troops safely home."

The 98 candidates listed at http://caws.us are all challengers.  Some have won and some have already lost primaries.

Incumbents can be judged better by their actions than their statements.  As documented at http://defundwar.org 115 of them have demonstrated a willingness not to bankrupt our nation to fund illegal wars.
