13] – Sister Helen Prejean—the Catholic nun and death-penalty activist who inspired the 1996 movie Dead Man Walking—will give a talk in the Hyman Forum of Goucher College's Athenaeum on Tues., Oct. 5 at 7 PM. Afterwards, Prejean will sign copies of her books. Her talk, titled "Dead Man Walking—The Journey Continues," is open to the public, but tickets are required for all attendees. 16] – Many national peace groups including Peace Action and Pax Christi are planning events with groups around the world for the International Days of Action to End the War in Afghanistan, Oct. 7-10. This will be an opportunity for local activists to mobilize growing opposition to the costs, human and economic, of the war. Using local newspaper ads, teach-ins, vigils, Congressional visits or phone-ins to call for a ceasefire, negotiations and a withdrawal of all troops will help focus the growing opposition on both the administration as well as candidates in the midterm elections.
