Activist alert

56] – There will be a Mobilization for Global Justice meeting at 7 PM on Wed., Feb. 4 at St. Stephens Church, 16th & Newton Sts., NW, WDC.  Exit at the Columbia Heights Metro stop.  The meeting takes place the first Wednesday of the month.  Email mgj@riseup.net.  

 

57] – The Peace & Justice Coalition of Prince George’s County meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 PM at the Greenbelt Community Center.  The next meeting is Feb. 4. Call 301-577-2350.

 

58] – There is a WIB peace stand on Thurs., Feb. 5, noon-1PM in Towson at northwest corner of Washington & Chesapeake Aves., across the street from the post office, near the courthouse. Contact mbrainzo@aol.com. This vigil takes place on the first Thursday of the month.

 

59] – On Thurs., Feb. 5, the WEEKLY ROUNDTABLE SEEKING A JUST PEACE IN PALESTINE/ISRAEL takes place from 12:30 - 1:30 PM at Potter's House, 1658 Columbia Road NW, WDC.  Join a civil discourse which explores the history, issues, myths, realities, and truth of the conflict between Israel and Palestine. 60] – The Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore hosts an End the War! End the Occupation! rally on Thurs., Feb. 5 from 5 to 6:30 PM in Mount Vernon at Centre & Charles Sts.  The Pledge gathers in Mount Vernon on the first Thursday of the month to protest the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Call Max at 410-366-1637.

61] – On Thurs., Feb. 5, from 7 to 9 PM, DC Statehood, Yes We Can: Now Is Our Time! will be held at UDC Building 39, Second Floor (Law Dept.) on Conn. Ave. There will be a lively discussion hosted by the DC Statehood Green Party.  Call 202-536-4065.

 

62] – PeaceAction Montgomery, meets every first Thursday, next being Feb. 5, at 7 PM at the Cedar Lane Unitarian Church, room 16 in the basement, 9601 Cedar Lane, Bethesda, Maryland 20814-4099.

 

63] – Groups who were spied on by the Maryland State Police sent a letter to Gov. Martin O’Malley asking him to have all of the secret files released in an unredacted form.  On Sat., Feb. 7 at noon, a number of these activists will deliver another copy of the letter to the governor’s mansion in Annapolis.  This will be followed by a demonstration in Church Circle in support of legislation to prevent this spying from happening again.  Email mobuszewski [at] verizon.net or call 410-366-1637.

 

64] – On Sat., Feb. 7, from 7 PM to midnight, a "Fiesta Tropical" with a Nicaraguan beach theme will be held at St. John's Church, 2640 St. Paul St. This is a family event featuring savory crepes by Sofi's, authentic Latin American entrees, and tropical fruits and other mouth-watering desserts.  Entertainment includes live steel drum performances, salsa instruction, and Latin dance music by WEAA DJ Guillermo Brown.  A silent auction will highlight Nicaraguan art and other valuable items and services.
