3] – THE ORGANIZING LIST will be the primary decision-making mechanism of the National Campaign of Nonviolent Resistance [NCNR]. It will be augmented by conference calls and possibly in-person meetings as needed. It will consist of 1 or 2 representatives from each local, regional, or national organization (not coalitions) that wishes to actively work to carry out the NCNR campaign of facilitating and organizing nonviolent resistance to the war in Iraq .

THE NOTICES LIST will include only notices of NCNR actions and related information and is open to any interested person to subscribe. It will be moderated to maintain focus & will include periodic notices about getting involved in NCNR national organizing. 4] – The Baltimore American Friends Service Committee office has assembled an exhibit Maryland Eyes Wide Open which details the Human Cost of the Iraq War and reflects the costs of war to the state of Maryland. The exhibit consists of at least 40 pairs of combat boots, representing the US military deaths from Maryland; civilian shoes, tagged with names and ages of a very small fraction of the tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis who have died; a representative pair of combat boots and 7 red poppies, representing the estimated number of wounded US military personnel (approximately 7 times the number of dead); and signs and literature detailing the human and financial costs of the war on the cities and counties of Maryland.

AFSC will help with logistics and contribute to your planning for auxiliary events or activities presented in conjunction with the exhibit. 6] – Start Loving is back on a 24/7 hunger strike on Capitol Hill, as he remains concerned that Iran will be attacked. He is casting his vote against a declaration of another preemptive, illegal war by the U.S. Go to http://startlovingusforcesiraniraq.blogspot.com/.

7] – The Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation is looking for a group to sponsor a visit by its chairperson, Steve Leeper, and a Hibakusha (a-bomb survivor) in late October and early November. There still exist over 20,000 nuclear weapons worldwide, so this visit with its A-bomb exhibit would be an opportunity to educate the broader community. Contact Max at 410-366-1637.

The Peace Memorial Museum is working with Leeper on the A-bomb exhibition project in the USA . It is hoping that an exhibition, which would consist of a poster exhibition, could be set up in the Baltimore area between Oct. 27 and Oct. 30. Please let Max know if you can get involved in this project.

8] – The film CLAUDINE will be shown at 6 PM on Thurs., Aug. 21 at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center, 847 N. Howard St. Writer/director was on the blacklist in the 1950s. This film in 1974 stars Diahann Carroll, a single Harlem mother and maid, and James Earl Jones, a garbage collector, who are trying to deal with the inconsistencies in the welfare system. 11] – The Kindness of Your Response is Requested for the 11th Annual Women's Equality Day Dinner and Celebration. Baltimore NOW is collecting items for the silent auction component of the annual coalition event celebrating the 19th Amendment and the importance of voting. Consider donating a small item. 15] – A peace vigil takes place every Friday from noon to 1 PM on Pennsylvania Ave., by the press gate to the White House. It is organized by the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker. Call 202-882-9649.

16] – There is a silent vigil on Fri., Aug. 22 from 5 to 6 PM outside of Homewood Friends Meeting, 3107 N. Charles St. , in opposition to war with Iraq . Placards say: "War Is Not the Answer." The silent vigil is sponsored by AFSC, Homewood Friends Meeting and Stony Run.

17] – There will be a thorough exposition on COINTELPRO on Fri., Aug. 22 from 6:30-9:30 PM at the Maya Angelou Public Charter School , 1851 9th St. NW , WDC. This event will feature Dhoruba Bin Wahad, a former political prisoner who won his freedom, after 19-years. In 1990 after a New York State judge found that the FBI had suppressed evidence that could have helped clear him of his 1971 attempted double-cop murder charge. 19] – On Fri., Aug. 22 at 7 PM at St. John’s, 27th & St. Paul, there will be a Utah Phillips Memorial Concert. One of this country's great political folk musicians has left the stage, but he gave us a legacy of songs and stories. Performers include Ryan Harvey, Emma's Revolution, R.A.M., Sine Jensen, Tom Frampton and more. Admission is $5. All proceeds benefit the Baltimore chapter of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) and the Ft. Meade chapter of the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW).

20] – Fr. Charles Cloughen Jr. [mailto:frcharles@verizon.net] invites you to pray for peace on Fri., Aug. 22 at 7:30 PM at Sherwood Episcopal Church, 5 Sherwood Road, the corner of Sherwood and York Road in Cockeysville. The Interfaith Prayer Partners gather every month on the 22nd.

21] – There is an opportunity to participate in ballroom dancing, usually every Friday of the month, in the JHU ROTC Bldg. at 8 PM. Turn south on San Martin Dr. from the intersection of Univ. 22] – Each Saturday, 11 AM – 1 PM, Chester County Peace Movement holds a peace vigil in West Chester in front of the Chester County Courthouse, High & Market Sts. This vigil has been the target of counter-demonstrators and harassment from the " Chester County Victory Movement" but has grown and persisted. Go to www.ccpeace.org.

23] – There will be a peace vigil on the West Lawn of the Capitol at noon on Sat., Aug. 23. Look for the blue banner with the message, "Seek Peace and Pursue It. --Psalms 34:14." 24] – Part 1 of Slave Rebellion Weekend with Historian CR Gibbs takes place on Sat., Aug. 23 from noon to 4 PM through the District of Columbia. 33] – There is usually a vigil to abolish the death penalty every Monday from 5 to 6 PM, outside the prison complex and across the street from Maryland’s death row, at the corner of Madison Ave. and Fallsway in Baltimore . The next vigil is scheduled for Mon., Aug. 25. Call 410-233-0488.

34] – The Maryland Coalition Against the BGE Rate Hikes is hosting a forum at 6 PM on Mon., Aug. 25 which will feature Del. Jill Carter and others at the Northwood Library (Cold Spring & Loch Raven) to discuss the Coalition's legislative strategy for reregulation of BGE.

35] – The Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore usually meets every Monday. The next meeting is on Mon., Aug. 25 at 7:30 PM at the AFSC, 4806 York Road . Discuss the response to the State Police spy scandal and upcoming protests against the war. Call Max at 410-366-1637.

36] – There is a vigil to say "War Is Not the Answer" each Tuesday since September 11, 2001 at 4806 York Road . Join this ongoing vigil. The next vigil is Aug. 26 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM.

37] – The next meeting of the Baltimore Coalition Against the Death Penalty will be Tues., Aug. 26 at 7 PM at AFSC, 4806 York Road . Because of the breaking news that Maryland State Police were spying on peace activists and opponents of the death penalty, the group will review ways of taking advantage of the situation.
