3] – THE ORGANIZING LIST will be the primary decision-making mechanism of the National Campaign of Nonviolent Resistance [NCNR]. It will be augmented by conference calls and possibly in-person meetings as needed. It will consist of 1 or 2 representatives from each local, regional, or national organization (not coalitions) that wishes to actively work to carry out the NCNR campaign of facilitating and organizing nonviolent resistance to the war in Iraq .

To join the ORGANIZING List, please send your name, group affiliation, city and email address to donmuller@msn.com. Different local chapters of a national organization are encouraged to subscribe.

THE NOTICES LIST will include only notices of NCNR actions and related information and is open to any interested person to subscribe. It will be moderated to maintain focus & will include periodic notices about getting involved in NCNR national organizing. 4] – The Baltimore American Friends Service Committee office has assembled an exhibit Maryland Eyes Wide Open which details the Human Cost of the Iraq War and reflects the costs of war to the state of Maryland. The exhibit consists of at least 40 pairs of combat boots, representing the US military deaths from Maryland; civilian shoes, tagged with names and ages of a very small fraction of the tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis who have died; a representative pair of combat boots and 7 red poppies, representing the estimated number of wounded US military personnel (approximately 7 times the number of dead); and signs and literature detailing the human and financial costs of the war on the cities and counties of Maryland.

AFSC will help with logistics and contribute to your planning for auxiliary events or activities presented in conjunction with the exhibit. 7] – The Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore hosts an End the War! End the Occupation! rally on Thurs., May. 1 starting at 5 PM in Mount Vernon at Centre & Charles Sts. The Pledge gathers in Mount Vernon on the first Thursday of the month to protest the war. Call Max at 410-366-1637.

8] – A talk by Green For All founder and president Van Jones about providing environmental jobs for low-income people takes place on Thurs., May 1 at 6:30 PM at Morgan State University.

9] – Celebrate MAYDAY 2008, Thurs., May 1, as a DAY OF ACTION FOR IMMIGRANT RIGHTS. At 6 PM, march through Columbia Heights , Adams Morgan & Mt. Pleasant . 11] – The Baltimore Museum of Art will host a free screening of VERONICA VOSS (1982) on Thurs., May 1 at 8 PM. Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s film is often compared to Billy Wilder's SUNSET BOULEVARD. This shimmering black and white film set in 1955 focuses on a former German movie star haunted by her memories of the decadent '20s and fascistic '30s and '40s. VERONICA VOSS would prove one of his last hurrahs; his untimely death at the age of 37 came just months after the film's release. ANTI-NUCLEAR PROTEST

12] – David Holdridge will address Emergency & Development Aid During Crises: Lessons from Iraq, Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza on Fri., May 2 from noon to 1:30 PM at 1779 Mass. Ave. NW, WDC. Holdridge, Mercy Corps' Middle East regional director is a seasoned emergency and development professional with over twenty-five years of experience in initiating and providing executive leadership in non-government humanitarian organizations throughout the Middle East, Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, Asia and the U. 13] – WIB Frederick holds a silent vigil mourning all violence, the first Friday of the month, from 12 to 12:30 PM, War Memorial Park, W 2nd St. & N. Bentz in Frederick. The next vigil is May 2. 14] – Protest the illegal termination of The Marc Steiner Show from noon to 1 PM Monday through Saturday in front of WYPR, 2216 N. Charles St. You may consider calling the station to complain at 410-235-1395. Urge Dan Rodricks at dan.rodricks@baltsun.com to reconsider taking over Marc’s show.

17] – A peace vigil takes place every Friday from noon to 1 PM on Pennsylvania Ave., by the press gate to the White House. It is organized by the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker. Call 202-882-9649.

19] – There is a silent vigil on Fri., May 2 from 5 to 6 PM outside of Homewood Friends Meeting, 3107 N. Charles St. , in opposition to war with Iraq . Placards say: "War Is Not the Answer." The silent vigil is sponsored by AFSC, Homewood Friends Meeting and Stony Run.

23] – Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Catholic Worker at 7:30 PM on Fri., May 2 at the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker, 503 Rock Creek Church Rd, NW, WDC, 20010. On May 1, 1933, Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin published the first copy of the Catholic Worker paper in New York City , and thus, the Catholic Worker was born. 27] – The 2008 Maryland Green Party Assembly will be held Sat., May 3 at Towson University ’s Linthicum Hall. Carl Romanelli, the Green Party of Pennsylvania's 2006 candidate for governor, will deliver the keynote address. Registration will open at 9 AM, and the assembly will begin at 10 AM with lunch at noon. The assembly will re-convene from 1 to 3 PM. The assembly will close with a screening of "AIN'T EASY BEING GREEN," a documentary film about Romanelli’s 2006 campaign and the barriers that third-party and independent candidates face in our electoral system.

30] – There will be a luncheon to benefit Iraqi refugees hosted by PeaceAction Montgomery on Sat., May 3 from 11:30 AM to 2 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockville, 100 Welsh Park Dr. Directions are at http://www.uucr.org/Directions.html. There will be two speakers. Kristele Younes joined Refugees International in February 2006 after working as a legal officer with the Coalition for the International Criminal Court in The Hague . Raed Jarrar, based in Washington, D.C., is an Iraqi political analyst and consultant to AFSC's Iraq Program currently based in Washington, D.C. After the U.S.-led invasion, Jarrar became the country director for CIVIC Worldwide, the only door-to-door casualty survey group in post-war Iraq . 31] – There will be a peace vigil on the West Lawn of the Capitol at noon on Sat., May 3. Look for the blue banner with the message, "Seek Peace and Pursue It. --Psalms 34:14."
