21] – Jewish Voice for Peace is doing a Power Half-Hour for Gaza: Channel grief & outrage into action to stop a genocide.  A year into the genocide in Gaza, we are overwhelmed with sorrow and rage. There are no words to describe the devastating pain of the past year in which the Israeli military has killed over 44,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 17,000 children. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court have both declared that Israel must stop the genocidal acts being committed on the Palestinian people. And the U.S. government is actively supporting the Israeli military as it wreaks devastation on the over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. JVP continues to come together as a political community in its daily half-hour to take action. Join in and take collective action to demand an arms embargo to Israel, immediate end to the genocide, a lasting ceasefire and an end to Israeli siege, apartheid, occupation, and oppression of Palestinians and Lebanon. All are welcome. All are needed. Get involved at 3 PM ET on Mon., Aug. 11, Tues., Aug. 12, Wed., Aug. 13 & Thurs., Aug. 14. 24] – On Mon., Aug. 11 at 7 PM, the Metro D.C. DSA Virginia Fiber Arts group will meet at the Festival Center, 1640 Columbia Road NW, 2nd Floor, WDC 20009. Email DCFiberArtsCollective@gmail.com

This group aims to promote, celebrate, and build community around the fiber arts, including knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidering, felting, and needle-punching. This group is be a way for members to develop fiber skills, mitigate burnout, and connect organizers who normally work in different realms. There is a plan to have sessions dedicated to learning skills such as darning and patching, as well as creating agitpop for the chapter and other radical causes, both for visibility and fundraising projects. A fiber arts community strengthens bonds as organizers and community members while curating a low-barrier space where organizers can exchange ideas and be creative.

This meeting will be the first knitting/crocheting bee, in which you will knit and crochet squares for quilted blankets in partnership with the Foundry Church. The blankets will be donated to those in need for this coming fall and winter. The goal for this is to knit/crochet enough squares for ten 5’ x 6’ blankets. You will be provided yarn, but, if you can, donate yarn, especially cotton/synthetic yarn (in case of wool allergies). Knitting needles/crochet hooks will be available, but please bring your own if you have them! Anthony Aguilar has made headlines for blowing the whistle on the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Now he's sharing his first-hand account of what he witnessed in Gaza with Defending Rights & Dissent. A retired U.S. Special Forces officer, Aguilar worked for UG Solutions, a contractor that partnered with GHF, a U.S- and Israeli-backed NGO established ostensibly to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza. Yet according to the former Green Beret, these aid sites were “designed as death traps.” He resigned after witnessing war crimes and is speaking out in hopes of halting the atrocities.
