Back from the Brink
[info@preventnuclearwar.org] encourages you to attend an organizing meeting on
Tues., April 19 at 1 PM ET. These monthly “working” meetings allow BftB
activists and supporters to come together, share ideas, offer input to the
campaign and learn about the coalition’s primary organizing projects.
Registrants will be sent an agenda and meeting reminder in advance of the
meeting. Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIpdO2gqTIrGd3Maw72cTlubpB1GLkUWhUg.
21] – Make Calls virtually with the DNC National Call Crew – on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Call voters in battleground states to build strength for the 2022 Midterms. Please email digitalorganizing@dnc.org. Sign up for calls on Tues., April 19, Wed., April 20, Thurs., April 21, and Fri., April 22. The times are 2 to 3 PM, 3 to 4 PM, 4 to 5 PM, 5 to 6 PM, 6 to 7 PM, and 7 to 8 PM EDT. On Sat., April 23, the times are 2 to 3 PM, 3 to 4 PM, 4 to 5 PM, 5 to 6 PM. Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/388091/?followup_modal_context=nonexclusive_newsletter_most_popular_virtual.
22] – Helena, Just World Ed [helena@justworldeducational.org] is inviting you on Tues., April 19 at 2:30 PM ET to a webinar in which Richard Falk and Helena will, along with colleagues, be giving a Report. Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_JV5DJW8-R4aaIlHwCmjcbQ. Just World Ed released a 32-page report, “Ukraine: Stop the Carnage, Build the Peace!” based on its March webinar series on the Ukraine Crisis. The new Report contains a list of eight Policy Recommendations made by the JWE Board. Max will be frank and say the recommendations are up in the clouds somewhere without any criticism of the invasion. For example, ceasefire now. A ceasefire is only possible with Putin’s agreement. No one has had any success in talking to Putin.
23] – Join the Baltimore Nonviolence Center on Tues., April 19 from 4:30 to 5:30 PM ET for a support demonstration for the people of Ukraine at 33rd and N. Charles Sts. The protest against Johns Hopkins University’s weapons contracts is suspended. The invasion of Ukraine has the potential to become a war extending throughout Europe. Putin has destroyed Aleppo and Grozny and has threatened the use of nuclear weapons. Russian soldiers have taken over the contaminated and still radioactive Chernobyl nuclear plant. A Russian tank sent projectiles very close to a nuclear power plant. The workers are under guard, and this is tremendously dangerous. People who believe in peace and justice must come forward and take the risks of peace. Contact Max at mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net or 410-323-1607. This vigil will takes place each Tuesday.
24] – Get involved virtually with Texting Tuesdays from 6 to 8 PM EDT through June 28. Join Progressive Maryland and its endorsed candidates every Tuesday to text voters across the state! The election is getting closer, so it is imperative to get the word out about these candidates that want radical change in favor of working people and our families! Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/progressivemarylandneweraproject/event/437643/?followup_modal_context=newsletter.
25] – Dylan Contrino [info@brookelierman.com] wants you to do some texting for Brooke Lierman on Tuesdays. Text on Tues., April 19 from 6 to 8 PM ET. Help elect Brooke as the next Comptroller of Maryland. Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/brookeliermanforcomptroller/event/444772/?emci=470e1845-ce9b-ec11-a22a-281878b85110&emdi=0c5c76a9-d59b-ec11-a22a-281878b85110&ceid=14404480.
26] – Our Revolution [info@ourrevolution.com] would like you to phone bank on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 PM ET. There are more than 8 million voters across the country who identify as progressive. These numbers suggest progressives can win at every level of government, but the voters must go to the polls! Sign up to join the Our Revolution phone bank force at https://www.mobilize.us/ourrevolution/event/440081/?akid=2556.8252965.t1Ai8m&rd=1&t=11. Do it on April 19, 20 or 21.
27] – The Youth Climate Finance Alliance [info@futurecoalition.org] wants you to get on a call on Tues., April 19 at 6 PM ET on Zoom to take digital action as part of a shareholder resolution campaign. Future Coalition and leading climate justice groups have teamed up to target the financial institutions that continue to fund the fossil fuel industry. The group will be reaching out to shareholders of JP Morgan Chase to call out the bank’s greenwashing and inadequate climate policies and to demand change. The GOAL is to pressure JPMorgan Chase to end the financing of fossil fuel expansion. RSVP at https://wearemarchon-org.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMsd-6rqz4iGtAsUNDD3YR6yngSGsTnHBFt?link_id=4&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-join-us-for-our-next-alliance-call-next-tuesday&email_referrer=email_1514971&email_subject=join-our-alliance-call-tomorrow-firstname-default-friend.
28] – On Tues., April 19 from 7 to 8 PM ET, check out Anti-Imperialism: A Youth Introduction. See https://masspeaceaction.org/event/anti-imperialism-a-youth-introduction/?emci=94e791aa-7eab-ec11-997e-281878b83d8a&emdi=a64585d0-e6ad-ec11-997e-281878b83d8a&ceid=269591. What is imperialism? Is imperialism the root of the climate crisis? How have anti-imperialist struggles shaped the world, and why should young people care? Join Mass Peace Action as we talk about these very issues with leading youth activists and organizers from groups such as the Sunrise Movement, Democratic Socialists of America International Committee, the Claudia Jones Club, and the Young Communist League. All ages are encouraged to attend, regardless of experience — this event will be centered on political education around imperialism, neocolonialism, revolutionary optimism, and youth liberation. 29] – Free Jessica Reznicek [info@email.actionnetwork.org] tells us that Tues., April 19 marks Jessica’s 250th day of being locked up and separated from the people and places she loves. To punish Jessica for protecting our waterways and the climate, the federal government has walled Jessica off from the wind, the rain, the rivers, the sun, and all of us. To show solidarity, sign up for a webinar USA v Jessica Reznicek: fighting the criminalization of Water Protectors on Tues., April 19 at 7:30 PM. Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEpduCsrz0uG91-c7n1QEv96jpmCbn3tDmI?fbclid=IwAR2tM5nFKY_vJzi6OAtzb2Z5_jp5aHOTf5y1j1tses-8gkVvoVr920XtjG0&link_id=0&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-usa-v-jessica-reznicek-fighting-the-criminalization-of-water-protectors&email_referrer=email_1504847&email_subject=usa-v-jessica-reznicek-fighting-the-criminalization-of-water-protectors.
The webinar will highlight the people fighting back against the criminalization of climate action in the United States. Since the No-DAPL movement, dozens of states have passed critical infrastructure laws that increase criminal penalties for anyone taking action against destructive fossil fuel projects. In 2017, 80 Republicans and 4 Democrats asked the Justice Department to prosecute Jessica Reznicek and the valve turners as terrorists. Last year, the justice department answered the call and applied a terrorism enhancement to Jessica’s case, doubling her sentence. Hear from several activists, as well as Bill Quigley, longtime attorney for Jessica Reznicek.
30] – Maryland LCV and the Hughes Center for Politics at Goucher College invite you to attend a Conversation with Senator Cardin about Climate and the Environment on Tues., April 19 at 7:30 PM at the Ungar Athenaeum at Goucher College or tune in through Facebook LIVE or YouTube. Goucher College students will ask Senator Cardin about what to anticipate in a climate package. Will the United States be able to uphold its global commitment to action on climate change? Can Marylanders expect federal funding to support provisions in the Climate Solutions Now Act passed earlier this month? Discuss these and other questions on climate and the environment with Senator Ben Cardin. It is astonishing to me that an environmental group would invite Ben Cardin to speak on the issue. He consistently votes in favor of the bloated pentagon budget. The Pentagon is committing ecocide, and our government s have excluded the military from the climate discussions. If you register for this talk, please chastise Senator Ben for his abysmal votes on military spending: https://secure.everyaction.com/vRycWbE-W0OXg4Nvb39tnw2?contactdata=8iWtjIGHO6HbAYLhVXBh6CjBxT+uptrH6zW0qxMHp1bSEnTOWLH5fPgDogt6hNJX9RGU4C7h85IQ567MlNj%2f1RGsEGTOFXRvdxkUM6NU97875T5gPFOfljzSBjwHfu0%2frCSXJPKoxNhBgouRm5vrlh3uU%2fS88LJ%2f6FC3yndVKfF32GKU2TaSNf0hm+GBG3w4aLSfF0cTDjvF4eg8SOo3WNEZG8n+pDZ6toJeSENrXodCfQpezJzHrc5c%2ffo16ZRTDuZbn3KTx+hsraSvr0+gKg%3d%3d&emci=6a9a2863-4ebb-ec11-997e-281878b83d8a&emdi=db95f7d3-1fbf-ec11-997e-281878b83d8a&ceid=578562.
31] – CODEPINK [info@codepink.org] wants your participation on Tues., April 19 at 8 PM ET to discuss a New Yemen War Powers Resolution. Join the CODEPINK CONGRESS Calling Party to mobilize for peace legislation! A ceasefire in Yemen comes as welcome news following several years of war in which a Saudi-led coalition pushed Yemen to the brink of starvation. How long will this ceasefire last? To ensure the ceasefire endures, critics of U.S. military complicity in Saudi genocide support the re-introduction of a Yemen War Powers Resolution. This War Powers Resolution would follow Trump’s veto of a similar resolution Congress passed in 2019. The new proposed resolution - soon to be introduced by congress members Jayapal (D-WA-07) and DeFazio (D-OR-04) - would prohibit U.S. military support for maintenance of the Saudi Air Force and U.S. intelligence for bombing targets. Join CODEPINK Congress’s special guests Jehan Hakim and Hassan El-Tayyab to deconstruct the truce and ask our reps to co-sponsor a new Yemen War Powers Resolution. Sign up at https://www.codepink.org/04192022?utm_campaign=cp_congress_04192022&utm_medium=email&utm_source=codepink.
32] – Stop the Money Pipeline [sarahlasoff@stopthemoneypipeline.com] wants you to register for a Welcome Call on Tues., April 19 at 8 PM ET. Show Wall Street that bank customers will not back down, as they are Customers for Climate Justice. Hear about the plan to take on Wall Street by signing up at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEtcuurrDIpEtOoUScsqSrXKIPYU02Z2waV?link_id=1&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-weve-built-customer-power-now-lets-use-it&email_referrer=email_1512492&email_subject=weve-built-customer-power-now-lets-use-it.
33] – On Tues., April 19 from 8:30 to 9:30 PM ET, get with a RAD Town Hall: Representation For All Includes DC! DC Vote is partnering with the Declaration for American Democracy Coalition to host a Realizing American Democracy Town Hall. Join this virtual town hall to hear from movement leaders on the importance of DC statehood for the health of our democracy, and learn how you can take action to protect our democracy. Right now, nearly 700 thousand residents of DC, over 45% of whom are Black, have no voting representation in Congress. DC statehood is a racial justice issue, and we cannot have representation and equal justice for all without statehood for DC. Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/dfadcoalition/event/451227/?followup_modal_context=newsletter. The next town hall will take place on May 3.
To be continued.
