23] – Get involved with giving testimony about the Anne Arundel Beyond Coal Resolution at 44 Calvert St., Annapolis 21401 on Mon., Oct 7 from 7 to 9 PM, organized by the Sierra Club Maryland Chapter.  Contact Matt Dernoga at matt.dernoga@mdsierra.org.  The Anne Arundel County Council will consider a resolution that calls for the Maryland General Assembly to lead on moving Maryland off coal power through a Coal Community Transition. This is an opportunity to attend their meeting, and speak in favor of the resolution. After you RSVP, guidance will be provided.

Anne Arundel County has two coal fired power plants: H.A. Wagner and Brandon Shores which are co-located in northern Anne Arundel County near the Baltimore City line. These coal plants are contributing to public health problems, climate change, and environmental degradation. The plants are major polluters of Sulfur Dioxide and Nitrogen Oxide, both of which damage the respiratory system. The American Lung Association recently gave Anne Arundel County an F grade for its air quality. Throughout Maryland, it's not much better: 88% of Marylanders live in counties unable to meet the EPA's clean air smog standards.
