28] – There is a WIB peace stand on Thurs., Dec.  2, noon-1PM in Towson at northwest corner of Washington & Chesapeake Aves., across the street from the post office, near the courthouse. Contact mbrainzo@aol.com. This vigil takes place on the first Thursday of the month.

 

29] – The WEEKLY ROUNDTABLE SEEKING A JUST PEACE IN PALESTINE/ISRAEL takes place from 12:30 - 1:30 PM on Thursdays at Potter's House, 1658 Columbia Road NW, WDC.  Join a civil discourse which explores the history, issues, myths, realities, and truth of the conflict between Israel and Palestine. 30] – The Pledge of Resistance-Baltimore usually hosts an End the Wars vigil on First Thursdays.  However, on Thurs., Dec. 2 from 5 to 6:30 PM in Mount Vernon at Centre & Charles Sts., the theme, during the Christmas Tree Lighting, will be an End to FBI Raids.  The Pledge gathers in Mount Vernon on the first Thursday of the month to protest U.S. Wars.  Call Max at 410-366-1637.


31] – Citizens Planning and Housing Association has worked for 69 years to improve housing options and housing policies in Baltimore City, and this year's Annual Meeting's theme is Housing for All.  CPHA has asked several of Baltimore's housing professionals to discuss how to make "Housing for All" on Thurs., Dec. 2 starting with a reception at 5:30 PM.  The meeting begins at 6:30 PM, and there will be dessert at 8 PM. 32] – On Thurs,, Dec. 2, from 6-9 PM, The Price of the Ticket: Tribute to James Baldwin will be held at Morgan State University, University Student Center, Calvin and Tina Tyler Ballroom, 1700 E. Coldspring Lane, Baltimore, Maryland 21217.  Speakers and performers will include: WEAA radio talk show host Anthony McCarthy; Morgan English Department Dean Dr. Dolan Hubbard; James Baldwin Society founder and president Kevin Brown; Morgan English professor Clay Goss; the Morgan Forensics Team; urban educator and scholar/athlete Leilani Jones; comic, teacher, activist and 2010 Open Society Institute Fellow Koli Tengella, newspaper columnist, writer, activist and teacher RB Jones; and spoken word artist Slangston Hughes with guest drummer Tafari Melisizwe. On-site painting will be done by artist/educator Shauntrice Martin.  There will be a panel discussion to follow. This event is free and open to the public.

 

The Price of the Ticket: Tribute to James Baldwin is being coordinated by freelance writer, activist and performance artist Ron Kipling Williams.  “It is critical that we not only honor Baldwin’s legacy, but engage in the kind of direct action that is relevant to today’s changing political and social climate,” said Williams. “I also think if Baldwin were alive today he would be highly critical of our overall complacency and attempt to impute a sense of urgency for fundamental change in all of us.”  James Arthur Baldwin – born Aug. 2, 1924 – was one of the most prolific writers in the 20th century. 33] – On Fri., Dec. 3, from 9 to 11 AM at TechAmerica, 601 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, Suite 600, North Building, WDC, hear Paul Carliner, former Appropriations clerk, Sen. Barbara Mikulski (MD); Maj. Gen. Rosie Rosenberg (retired), author of the Carter administration's space policy; Mark Albrecht, former Executive Secretary, White House National Space Council; John Logsdon, former Director, Space Policy Institute; and Kari Bingen, professional staff, House Armed Services Committee, discuss "Implementing National Space Policy." 37] – WIB holds a silent vigil mourning all violence, the first Friday of the month.  The next vigil is Dec. 3 from 12 noon to 12:30 PM, War Memorial Park, intersection of W. 2nd & N. 38] – A vigil for Justice in Palestine/Israel (now in its 8th year) takes place every Friday from noon to 1 PM at 19th & JFK Blvd., Philadelphia (across from Israeli Consulate.  It is sponsored by Bubbies & Zaydes (Grandparents) for Peace in the Middle East. 39] –  There is a silent vigil on Fri., Dec. 3 from 5 to 6 PM outside of Homewood Friends Meeting, 3107 N. Charles St., in opposition to war in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. Placards say: "War Is Not the Answer." The silent vigil is sponsored by AFSC, Homewood Friends and Stony Run Meetings.
