Hear from Dr. Julian Agyeman of Tufts University. Humanity must commit to ensuring a better quality of life for all in a just and equitable manner. This is the vision of just sustainability, the increasingly influential concept developed by Julian Agyeman and colleagues that explores the intersecting goals of social justice, equity and environmental sustainability whilst living within the limits of supporting ecosystems. Agyeman will explain the fundamental and inextricable connection between what our cities can become (sustainable, smart, sharing and resilient) and who is allowed to belong in them (recognition of difference, diversity, and a right to the city). Using the concept of just sustainability as the anchor, he will argue that humanity must act on both belonging and becoming, together, or else face a future of ever-deepening spatial and social inequities and inequalities.
