After Russian President Putin’s statement raising the possibility of using nuclear weapons against Ukraine, many people around the world, including Haitians expressed deep concern. A group of local state officials in Massachusetts visited a Haitian church in Malden to learn if its basement could accommodate residents in the event of a nuclear war between Russia and the United States. In the case of a nuclear war, the few survivors will envy the dead. The only ways to prevent a nuclear war are people’s pressure on elected officials for arms control and disarmament and finally winning that abolition of these terrible weapons.

Members of the panel are Roland Joseph, member of "Nonkilling Security & International Relations Research Committee" at the Center for Global Nonkilling (CGNK); Susan Mirsky, chair of the Nuclear Disarmament working group of Massachusetts Peace Action; and Joseph Gerson, Executive Director of The Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security.   Join the Social Housing Working Group for its biweekly organizing meeting. Learn about its latest activities, what they're planning for the future, and how to get involved. The Group seeks to educate Metro DC DSA chapter members and the general public about social housing and to facilitate collective action in support of the passage and implementation of the Green New Deal for Housing Amendment Act. The legislation proposes to create mixed-income, district-owned housing with market rate units that subsidize a larger number of affordable units. It's a pioneering approach that deepens affordability, invests surplus funds into the creation of more social housing, and locks-in financial sustainability. The bill also includes climate and labor standards and elected tenant boards with oversight over building management.

This event is open to both DSA Members and supporters. Email social.housing.wg@gmail.com
