The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has started the process for Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change, which will likely be one of the most important cases in the court's illustrious history.

The first international organization to be granted authority to participate in the case was the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The ICJ has followed up by also granting authority to the Commission of Small Island States on Climate Change and International Law (COSIS) and the European Union to participate in the case.  Normandy Chair for Peace and the Permanent Missions of Vanuatu and Costa Rica to the United Nations, will hold a diplomatic and civil society round-table in New York City on Recognizing and strengthening Rights of Future Generations: From the ICJ Climate Case to the UN Summit of the Future. 43] – Amnesty International USA [alerts@takeaction.amnestyusa.org] wants you to join the Fast and Vigil against the Death Penalty.  It will begin on Thurs., June 29 and run through Sun., July 2 outside the US Supreme Court. Find out more and register at www.abolition.org!

For four days, death penalty abolitionists from around the country will gather at the steps of the Supreme Court to call for an end to capital punishment in the United States. It is an energizing grassroots week of training, advocacy, action, community and education.

Tens of thousands of tourists and locals, from all over the U.S. and throughout the world, pass by our vigil and table, so the opportunity for dialogue and discussion at a real grass-roots level is invaluable to the movement. Additionally, each evening hear stories from murder victim family members, death row exonerees, death row families and leaders in the national abolition movement. Note that fasting is optional, and participation can be as much or as little as you want it to be – come for all four days, or just for a few hours. You can also join the online component to watch and listen to daily teach-ins virtually.

Learn about its latest activities, what they're planning for the future, and how to get involved. The Social Housing Working Group seeks to educate Metro DC DSA chapter members and the general public about social housing and to facilitate collective action in support of the passage and implementation of the Green New Deal for Housing Amendment Act. The legislation proposes to create mixed-income, district-owned housing with market rate units that subsidize a larger number of affordable units. It's a pioneering approach that deepens affordability, invests surplus funds into the creation of more social housing, and locks-in financial sustainability. The bill also includes climate and labor standards and elected tenant boards with oversight over building management. The Union of Concerned Scientists [action@ucsusa.org] will hold a virtual discussion on implementing the transformative change needed to stop the erosion of democracy on Thurs., June 29 from 8 to 9 PM ET.  Learn about History, Hope & the Power of Election Science. To solve the problems that threaten our health, safety, and environment we need a political system where every voice counts. Unfortunately, some communities across the United States have effectively been disenfranchised through laws and policies that make it harder to vote.

Attacks on democracy are not a new problem, but this erosion of voting rights has grown worse in recent years. And now, the legalization of gerrymandering with no checks and balances may be upheld by the US Supreme Court as early as this July.  Register for the virtual discussion at https://secure.ucsusa.org/a/2023-6-29-power-of-election-science?contactdata=RtINO7jRA4dEJPikD5iD4Ouc8C3nOsOaTfImV9SsDm3vNCgLGwlaZ5IpkCUWLnoMwRdnrPbORyyiAL%2bi3zO9qCClSoD3LCHPD7rD%2bcdmaADGr55lMZPqlovDueo2q1H2u9R%2bM7siVo1ilnbF0PXfD1xNvn%2bdZ65UVF1aVn2hiwGIk2kG5LezFQFVq93owmnP9xSbyRK8wR2rRK5PX3HKBadtwj7fzWm7IVwBZsusOSWdX8UO1viXXngWBa4B%2faL3S07otOCqvmxkgU%2fC0c3eqQ%3d%3d&utm_campaign=email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=email&emci=e129d24a-4c09-ee11-907c-00224832eb73&emdi=c047e250-4c09-ee11-907c-00224832eb73&ceid=1507036.
