It will start off with a discussion about how the war in Ukraine is impacting our approaches to social media and how we can support those being harmed right now. Then do a deep dive into twitter threads, sharing helpful examples and tips for creating them. And end by reflecting on the collaboratories themselves and brainstorm future topics.

36] – Jared Schablein [admin@lowershoreprogressives.com] has announced the last Town Hall on Tues., March 22 at 6:30 PM ET. The Lower Shore Progressive Caucus is hosting this town hall, as the State of Maryland will elect a new State's Attorney for the first time since 2014. This is an opportunity to elect a Progressive State's Attorney who will fight for the Eastern Shore. Meet Congressperson Anthony Brown, one of the candidates.  RSVP at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwrdeypqjwjGNY1IIdmbhhNLz9l9uzRS3-I?fbclid=IwAR38rdBt962RvecMje4NQrdXTGp-ZJGb4EZxNEZHHTIEE1bea7rhJ-cw3_k&fbclid=IwAR3t3O8mO6GLKuratvWASDeyBeNJDigt3QdomLoaGNa5BpBj9lbY0GxeiVE.

This event considers What are Russia’s nuclear weapon capabilities? What threats do potentially unstable nuclear reactors pose in the conflict? How could the nuclear threat be manipulated to escalate, or deescalate, the war? Sign up at https://www.chathamhouse.org/events/all/members-event/war-ukraine-nuclear-threats-and-realities.

40] – On Wed., March 23 at 1 PM ET, tune into Pondering the Nuclear Posture Review after Ukraine [Online]. The Biden administration came into office aspiring to reduce the role of nuclear weapons in U.S. national security. President Joe Biden quickly renewed New START and committed to strategic stability talks with the Russian Federation. However, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin’s threats to use nuclear weapons, Biden withdrew from those talks. The quadrennial nuclear posture review has yet to appear, but in the wake of the Ukraine war, opportunities for advancing the nuclear disarmament agenda seem vastly diminished. This event is sponsored by the Berkley Center with speakers Shannon Bugos, Arms Control Association; Drew Christiansen, Georgetown; Maryann Cusimano Love, Catholic University of America; and James McKeon, Nuclear Threat Initiative. Register at https://berkleycenter.georgetown.edu/events/pondering-the-nuclear-posture-review-after-ukraine.

44] – 19 Years after the Invasion: A Reflection on the U.S. Military Presence in Iraq will happen on Wed., March 23 from 6 to 7 PM EDT. While the invasion of Iraq removed Saddam Hussein’s brutal dictatorship from power, it also unleashed an era of sectarian violence, extremism, and abuses. Nearly two decades later, U.S. troops remain in Iraq under attenuated congressional authorizations. As we look back on the past nineteen years with the gift of hindsight, we should consider the ways in which the military-industrial complex and foreign policy establishment influenced our continued occupation. And more importantly, hear from those directly affected by this conflict: veterans, military families, and Iraqi civilians. Hear from a panel discussion with international activist Dina Al Bayati, who lived through the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq, Brandi Jones, Marine spouse and Organizing Director of the Secure Families Initiative, and Iraq war veterans: Dan Caldwell, a former Marine who now serves as Vice President of Foreign Policy for Stand Together, Joanna Sweatt, a former Marine who now serves as National Field Manager for Common Defense, and U.S. Army veteran Naveed Shah, Political Director of Common Defense. Quincy Institute Research Fellow Adam Weinstein will moderate. Sign up at https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/3716475443950/WN_jAp8Hl7vQeuVVVgsXyWzvw?mc_cid=e8375c3a95&mc_eid=f802f2d990.
