17] – Join activists
around the country at a virtual phonebank to urge voters in key states to
demand their senators’ support the Freedom to Vote Act. Work together to demand bold changes to our democracy to create a
government that represents all of us, not big corporations or special
interests. Call on voters in targeted states and connect them to their Senators
to support the Freedom to Vote Act, and to eliminate the filibuster. These
phone banks are subject to change based on variables. Our democracy is in crisis: with redistricting around
the corner and hundreds of voter suppression laws being introduced in states
across the country, we do not have time to wait. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/pfaw/event/376178/?utm_source=PFAW
to call on Mon., Nov. 8 from 4 to 6 PM and 6 to 8 PM ET and Tues., Nov. 9 from
3 to 5 PM ET.
18] – Ryan Harvey [rharvey@rethinktrade.org] is informing us that on Mon., Nov. 8 at 4:30 PM ET there will be a Student Teach-in on the World Trade Organization. When the World Trade Organization (WTO) was launched, we were promised an era of win-win globalization that would unleash economic growth, reduce poverty and support higher wages and good jobs. Fast forward 26 years, and these outcomes have not materialized. Instead, the WTO has become infamous worldwide for rules that are undermining the global fight against COVID-19. This event is hosted by the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies to learn more about the WTO and the fight for vaccine equity. 20] – James Jameson, RepresentUs [hq@represent.us] wants you to promote a new video on the Freedom to Vote Act on Mon., Nov. 8 from 6 to 7 PM ET. Sign up at https://vol.represent.us/a/pb_092121?akid=150392.680940.rFfsIK&ms=ak-em-pdf-20210917&rd=1&t=9&utm_campaign=pdf&utm_content=20210917&utm_medium=em&utm_source=ak&utm_term=. Senator Manchin just released the groundbreaking Freedom to Vote Act this week. It would make Election Day a federal holiday, ban gerrymandering, and put an end to dark money. But with the Senate vote coming in a matter of days, not enough senators have heard from their constituents pushing them to pass the bill. The Freedom to Vote Act is brand new, so there’s a lack of awareness by both constituents and senators about this legislation – and if we don't demonstrate massive support for it, the bill could fail. The more people see the video, the stronger our movement becomes. Learn how you can help make it go viral.

23] – Emily Kaplan [info@jvpaction.org] wants you to know about the Power of Phone Banking on Mon., Nov. 8 at 8 PM ET. Register at jvpaction.org/2021-fall-training.
In the last year, a record number of politicians have
supported legislation that centers Palestinian human rights and holds the
Israeli government accountable; members of Congress introduced legislation to
block weapons sales to Israel for the first time ever; and the broader
progressive movement is wholeheartedly welcoming Palestinian rights as a key
piece of the progressive agenda in U.S. politics, almost unimaginable just a
few years ago. To keep building on these wins in 2022 and beyond, we need to
sharpen our foundational organizing skills together!
24] – Join the webinar: Why is Massachusetts Building New Prisons? on Mon. Nov. 8 from 7 to 8:30 PM ET. There is a plan to build a new women’s prison to replace the Framingham House of Correction. 31] – James Jameson, RepresentUs [hq@represent.us] wants you to join a phone bank on Tues., Nov. 9 from 5:30 to 8 PM ET. Make calls for the Freedom to Vote Act. Sign up at https://vol.represent.us/a/pb_092121?akid=150392.680940.rFfsIK&ms=ak-em-pdf-20210917&rd=1&t=9&utm_campaign=pdf&utm_content=20210917&utm_medium=em&utm_source=ak&utm_term=. The Freedom to Vote Act is new, so there’s a lack of awareness by both constituents and senators about this legislation – and if we don't demonstrate massive support for it, the bill could fail.
Join the national phonebank to break through the Senate gridlock. The Freedom to Vote Act was just filibustered in the Senate, meaning that obstructionist politicians stopped the senate from even debating a bill that would save our broken political system. If it had been passed, it would have stopped billionaires from buying our elections, increased election security, stopped partisan gerrymandering and strengthened ethics and conflict of interest laws for politicians.

34] – Check out Steven Donziger: Chevron's Climate Hostage on Tues., Nov. 9 from 7 to 8 PM ET. Discuss justice for the people of Ecuador, Donziger’s case, the future of human rights lawyering, and what you can do to help In 1993, recent Harvard Law School graduate Steven Donziger accepted the case of his life: a 30,000-member class-action lawsuit against oil and gas giant Chevron on behalf of the indigenous Ecuadoreans whose land and water the company had violently polluted and destroyed, leaving behind an epidemic of cancer and birth defects. Against all odds, and despite years of twists and turns in the case, Donziger, his team, and the indigenous inhabitants they represented eventually emerged victorious; the Ecuador court issued a landmark $18 billion judgment against Chevron in 2011.
Since the judgment, Chevron has gone to great lengths both to avoid taking accountability for the harms it has caused and to persecute Donziger, who has been under house arrest for over two years—treatment the United Nations has ruled violates international law. On October 27th, 2021, Donziger—under a court order—reported to Danbury Federal Prison to begin serving a six-month federal prison sentence.
