70] – Jane Fonda for Greenpeace [info@greenpeaceusa.org] wants you to learn more about the powerful role art plays in activism, and get a special look at Shepard Fairey’s brand new portrait of President Joe Biden. Also appearing as well is Greenpeace Climate Campaigner, Charlie Jiang! Learn more about what the portrait represents — the critical need for President Biden to continue acting on climate through his first 100 days in office. The show goes LIVE Friday, Jan. 29 at 2 PM ET. Jiang is a climate campaigner fighting for a Green New Deal that brings justice for communities and workers most impacted by the climate crisis and fossil fuel extraction. Shepard Fairey received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design. 71] – On Fri., Jan. 29 at 2 PM EST, get with Toward an Inclusive and Balanced Regional Order: A New U.S. Strategy in East Asia [Online]. Under Donald Trump, the United States government pursued a dangerous strategy toward East Asia centered on quixotic efforts to retain American regional military primacy and pressure Asian nations to contain the People’s Republic of China. This zero-sum strategy, if continued by the incoming Biden Administration, will alienate America’s friends and allies, polarize the region, and increase the likelihood of armed conflict with Beijing. The Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft has just issued a report entitled, “Toward an Inclusive and Balanced Regional Order: A New U.S. Strategy in East Asia.” It presents an alternative U.S. approach to the region that stresses balance over dominance, inclusion over exclusion, and reassurance and cooperation alongside less escalatory forms of deterrence. Sign up at https://quincyinst.org/event/toward-an-inclusive-and-balanced-regional-order-a-new-u-s-strategy-in-east-asia/.
72] -- There is usually a Quaker Vigil for Racial Justice on Fridays, from 5 to 6:30 PM, hosted by the Baltimore Quaker Peace and Justice Committee (BQPJC) outside the Homewood Friends Meetinghouse, 3107 N. Email homewoodfriends@gmail.com or call 410-235-4438. Quaker values call us to speak truth and to seek equality for all people. We aim to follow Bayard Rustin’s wisdom that “we need, in every community, a group of angelic troublemakers” and John Lewis’s call to “make good trouble.” See https://www.facebook.com/events/311508100243529/?event_time_id=311508113576861.3&akid=18263%2E3302379%2Ez6bJVQ.
73] – On Fri., Jan. 29 at 7 PM EST, be at the Online Study Group: Toward a Socialist Understanding of Gentrification held by the Party for Socialism and Liberation – DC. Tune in at us02web.zoom.us. Gentrification is a policy of displacing poor people from a community and replacing them with more affluent people, all in the interest of profit. It is also an outcome of the capitalist approach to housing and development. Under this system, millions of households are rent-burdened, tens of thousands are homeless even though vacant housing exists, and people are getting evicted even during the pandemic.
Call for cancellation of rent, a socialist understanding of gentrification, and how a socialist program for housing provides a clear alternative. Also discuss ongoing fights against displacement with local housing organizers. Register at https://m.facebook.com/events/902212990600736
74] –Join a Virtual Vigil and gather on Fri., Jan. 29 at 9:30 PM ET to mark what would have been the second anniversary of the Remain in Mexico policy (MPP). The US has also surrounded Iran with dozens of active, armed military bases. Register to Watch on Zoom at https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_R5v_wFmmQdujR4To3GdVCQ.

88] – The Trump Administration is again beating the war drums. Most recently, the target is Iran. Should the Trump administration initiate an act of war against Iran, consider joining us. It is a violation of U.S. law for the Trump Administration to attack a country that has not attacked us, as only Congress can declare war. The Trump administration is nevertheless beating the war drums for war against Iran and Venezuela. Should a war criminal, John Bolton, convince Trump to attack either of these countries, such a military strike would demand an immediate and unequivocal response from us to show that we will not tolerate his abuse of power.
Let's mobilize to show that we the people will not tolerate another military adventure, which would be bound to have profound negative consequences. If a military strike against Iran or Venezuela takes place, then meet at 33rd and N. Charles St., Baltimore 21218. If the attack is before 2 PM local time, then the event will begin at 5 PM, local time. If the attack occurs after 5 PM local time, then the event will begin at 5 PM, local time, the following day. “One is called to live nonviolently, even if the change one works for seems impossible. It may or may not be possible to turn the US around through nonviolent revolution. But one thing favors such an attempt: the total inability of violence to change anything for the better" - Daniel Berrigan
