9] – UnitedHealth reported more than $6.6 billion in profits in just three months as COVID-19 has delayed non-emergency medical services and less people are getting the care they need – meaning insurance companies are making fewer payments to doctors and hospitals.1 Meanwhile, an estimated 27 million Americans lost their employer-sponsored health insurance in that same time period during a global pandemic. We need a health care system that’s built to prioritize delivering health care – not denying it in order to maximize profit. We need Medicare for All. Join a Movement Builder training on Sun., Aug. 2 at 6 PM at https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_sZ6jLMJqRNq7WpNhkVT99Q?akid=54806.162593.fQVFrX&rd=1&t=3.

Do not go to the Pentagon City stop! Go up south escalators and turn left and walk across to protest area. By car from D.C. area, take 395 South and get off at Exit 8A-Pentagon South Parking. Take slight right onto S. Rotary Rd. at end of ramp and right on S. Fern St. Then take left onto Army Navy Dr. You can "pay to park" on Army Navy Dr.,  and there is meter parking one block on right on Eads St. Payment for both of these spots begin at 8 AM.  No cameras are allowed on Pentagon grounds. 13] – On Mon,, Aug. 3 at 3:30 PM ET, the Poor People’s Campaign will launch a Moral Monday to Stop McConnell’s Misery, Meanness and Mayhem. Senate Majority Leader McConnell is too comfortable with the thousands of deaths and untold suffering from the pandemics of COVID-19, systemic racism and poverty. In this urgent crisis of leadership, we must come together to demand a full and just relief package that lifts from the bottom. RSVP now to Join PPC Co-chairs and Movement Family on Moral Monday to Stop McConnell’s Misery, Meanness and Mayhem at https://actionnetwork.org/events/moral-monday-to-stop-mcconnells-misery-meanness-and-mayhem?source=direct_link&&link_id=0&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&email_referrer=email_878914&email_subject=monday-digital-march-on-mcconnell.  As Mother Jones taught us, we will "Pray for the dead, fight like hell for the living!”

It has been nearly five months since this government took action in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are now facing the worst public health crisis in a century and an economic recession that rivals the Great Depression.  Before the pandemic, there were already 140 million people who were poor or one emergency away from being poor. Now, 50 million unemployment claims have been filed since March and 20 million Americans face evictions in the days ahead, while at the same time US billionaires have increased their wealth by over $700 billion.  Yet, under Mitch McConnell’s leadership, the Senate Republicans have proposed a bill that will leave citizens and states with fewer protections and funds. Instead of bolstering unemployment benefits and extending renter protections, the proposed bill actually increases the military budget, maintains tax breaks for the wealthy, undermines public schools’ ability to safely reopen and institutes legal immunity for corporations and companies that are forcing people back to work in unsafe conditions.  Flood the phone lines of Majority Leader McConnell and push for a full and just relief package.

16] On Mon., Aug. 3 from 7 to 8 PM, Kathy Kelly will try to answer this question: Yemen and Iran: Who Suffers in a State of Siege?  She has lived alongside people in war zones who try to survive both military and economic warfare. In Iraq, she and her companions defied U.S./UN economic sanctions by delivering medical relief to Iraqi children and families. Thirteen years of economic sanctions didn't necessarily cause Iraq's dictatorial government to miss a meal. Instead, those sanctions punished Iraq's children. Hundreds of thousands of children died as Iraqis endured a state of siege. Now, Yemeni children suffer through what UNICEF has called a "living hell." Look at https://www.facebook.com/events/1078464799015859/?event_time_id=1240444216151249.

21] – On Tues., Aug. 4 at 7 PM, find out about Turmoil in Bolivia: Ungovernability, Uncontrolled Pandemic, Economic Crisis, and Postponement of the Elections. The right-wing government of Bolivia that usurped power in a coup last November, announced the postponement of the general elections from September to October 2020. These announcements take place at a time when the candidate of the Towards Socialism Movement (MAS) Luis Arce indisputably leads the citizens' preference to occupy the Presidency of the republic. Former President Evo Morales warned that "a delay in the election date will only harm the people. Find out more at http://masspeaceaction.org/event/turmoil-in-bolivia-ungovernability-uncontrolled-pandemic-economic-crisis-and-postponement-of-the-elections/?emci=fea9fcf2-36d0-ea11-9b05-00155d03bda0&emdi=a5a5a192-39d0-ea11-9b05-00155d03bda0&ceid=269591.

22] – On Tues., Aug. 4 from 7:30 to 9 PM, figure out From Stormtroopers in Portland Streets to November’s Election.  This summer's nationwide struggle against racist police violence takes place at a time when the racist, reactionary forces led by Donald Trump fear repudiation and expansion of democracy on behalf of a multinational movement. What is at stake in the struggle to defund the police, keep the military and Border Patrol out of the streets of U.S. cities, and ensure a fair election in November?   To answer these questions we turn to military scholar and critic Lawrence Wilkerson.  See http://masspeaceaction.org/event/from-stormtroopers-in-portland-streets-to-novembers-election/?emci=fea9fcf2-36d0-ea11-9b05-00155d03bda0&emdi=a5a5a192-39d0-ea11-9b05-00155d03bda0&ceid=269591.

23] – On Tues., Aug. 4 from 8 to 9 PM, see what is going on with Resisting State Repression. You know you've got Trump scared when he starts trying to roll out this kind of militarized response! Because folks have been organizing so effectively to defund police under the call from Black leadership, and mass numbers of folks are taking to the streets in multiracial formation, he's responding in ways similar to fascist responses designed to break movements and dismantle our already weak democratic processes. He's experimenting with tactics that he began trying in anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant efforts.  Go to http://masspeaceaction.org/event/resisting-state-repression/?emci=fea9fcf2-36d0-ea11-9b05-00155d03bda0&emdi=a5a5a192-39d0-ea11-9b05-00155d03bda0&ceid=269591.

To be continued.
