25] – On Tues., March 17 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, come out to support 40 Years of the US Refugee Act, hosted by CWS at 1st St. NE & Constitution Ave. Near the corner of Constitution and 1st NE Faith leaders, refugee agencies, business leaders, and community partners who support refugees will gather to recognize and celebrate the enormous success of the refugee program over the last forty years.  Honor the success and resilience of refugees and asylees in the U.S., and hear from speakers will also address how the Trump administration is violating the spirit of the Refugee Act of 1980 and our nation’s history by grinding refugee resettlement and asylum programs to a near halt.

This Press Conference and Rally will Celebrate the Successes of Refugees and Asylees on the 40th Anniversary of the Refugee Act of 1980.  Through banning refugees from certain countries, attempting to end pathways for family reunification, trying to allow states and localities to veto refugee resettlement, cutting resettlement numbers by more than 80% and turning away asylum seekers with the Remain in Mexico policy this administration is trying to do away with the Refugee Act of 1980.  Advocates will ask Congress and the Trump administration to stop its attack on refugees by honoring the Refugee Act of 1980 and restoring resettlement to historic norms of 95,000 per year, which is just ⅓ of 1 percent of the world’s nearly 26 million refugees.  Go to https://www.facebook.com/events/557738548168947/.
