21] –  On Fri., Aug. 25 from 9 to11 AM, take a Zero-Waste Tour of the Brown Station Road Landfill, Upper Marlboro. When you throw stuff away, where does it go? Learn more about the Prince George's County waste-management system through this tour of the Brown Station Road Landfill, including how landfills are designed and how environmental impacts are mitigated. This is organized by the Prince George's Sierra Club. The tour will include the leachate treatment plant and methane collection. 22] – On Fri., Aug. 25 from noon to 1 PM, join the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker in a vigil urging the powers that be to abolish war and torture, to disarm all weapons, to end indefinite detention, to close Guantanamo, to establish justice for all and help create the Beloved Community! 23] – On Fri., Aug. 25 from noon to 1 PM, join a Women in Black peace vigil. A vigil will take place in McKeldin Square at the corner of Light and Pratt Sts. Stay for as long as you can. Wear black. Dress for who knows what kind of weather. Bring your own poster or help with the "NO WAR IN MY NAME" banner.  When there are others to stand with, you don't need to carry the burden alone. Do this to be in solidarity with others....when everything around us says “Be afraid of the stranger.” Carpool and parking available. 24] – There is usually a silent vigil on Fridays, from 5 to 6 PM, sponsored by Homewood Friends Meeting, outside the Homewood Friends Meetinghouse, 3107 N. Charles St.  The next scheduled vigil is on Aug. 25. Black Lives Matter.  

25] -- Join the fun at the Maryland SPCA, 3300 Falls Road, Baltimore 21211, on Fri., Aug. 25 from 5:30 to 8 PM for Barkaritaville. Barkaritaville features live music, local vendors, wading pools and water misters for animals. Play in the fun runs, and get over to the paw painting for dogs.  Enjoy live music by Tim Nodar & Matt Ellis of the 3 Fifths Band.  Food will be available by Wolo Eats Food Truck, providing a "gourmet kitchen on wheels." Vendors include Hair off the Dog, Camp Bow Wow, Bark, Medieval Times, Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt, LulaRoe, Flats at 703, and Galley Foods.  Barkaritaville tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door. 26] – On Fri., Aug. 25 from 6 to 8 PM, hear a Malcolm X Talk: Building a Black Incubator, hosted by Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle at the Real News Network, 231 Holliday St., Baltimore 21202.  LBS is working with the Baltimore Algebra Project on an upcoming collaborative effort to create and sustain a locally-led enterprise.  The Peer to Peer Enterprises Model is rooted in the idea that expertise does not exist above or away from young people and their communities, but among them. Peer to Peer is a project that will cultivate an ecosystem of grassroots organizations and infrastructure support that will accomplish two primary goals. Help to support the development of Black led grassroots organizations that are typically closest in proximity to young people and their communities but are substantially underfunded. Provide young people with access to organizations that can instruct them on how to monetize their intellectual and social capital.

27] – There is an opportunity to participate in ballroom dancing, usually every Friday of the month, in the JHU ROTC Bldg. at  8 PM.  Turn south on San Martin Dr. from the intersection of Univ. 28] – National Dog Day is Saturday, August 26.

29] – These items are WANTED:  Eyeglasses, Musical Instruments, Hearing Aids, Adult & Children’s Bikes, Portable Sewing Machines Women’s Purses or Pocketbooks, and Baseball Equipment.  St. John the Evangelist Catholic in Columbia will send your no longer used items listed above to needy families in Latin America, Africa and inner-city Baltimore.  The sewing machines and musical instruments need to be in working order; the other items need not be. Drop them off at the Wilde Lake Interfaith Center parking lot, 10431 Twin Rivers Rd., on Sat., Aug. 26 from 9 AM to 1 PM. Tax receipts will be given.  Call Tom at 301-774-7069.

32] – On Sat., Aug. 26 at noon, A Well-Fed World Presents the 4th Annual Vegan SoulFest at the Baltimore City Community College.  Vegan SoulFest is a celebration of culture and vegan living in Baltimore. This is a FREE event featuring delicious vegan food, nutrition experts, vegan cooking demonstrations, a children's area, live entertainment, giveaways, special invited guests and much more! Featured Speakers are Dr. Milton Mills, Tracye McQuirter, David Carter (the 300lb vegn), and Monique Koch (the Brown Vegan) The performing artists are DJ Tee Brown, Ama Chandra, Buddah Bass, and Mova Kween. The goal of Vegan SoulFest is to spread awareness about how the vegan lifestyle can improve personal health and our relationships with other people, animals and our natural environment.

34] – Get over to the Last Demonstration of the Summer. Ignite Peace. Stop the Drone War Command Center, Route 611/Easton Road & County Line Road, Horsham, PA, on Sat. Aug. 26 from noon to 2 PM. This demonstration takes place the last Saturday of the month. Park in the Regal Cinemas Warrington Crossing on Rout 611 just beyond County Line Road.  Dress according to the weather and bring an umbrella in the event of rain.  The demo is initiated by the Brandywine Peace Community and the American Friends Service Committee. 36] – On Sat., Aug. 26 from 1 to 3 PM, come to the Baltimore Green Party August General Meeting, hosted by the Baltimore City Green Party at 100 E 23rd St., Baltimore 21218-5807.  Greet new members and curious guests, coordinate ongoing projects, and continue to prepare for the next elections.

37] – Activists Joyce and Tim Wheeler now live in Sequim, Washington, but their son, Morgan and his family have lived in the Wheeler’s Baltimore home, 816 Beaumont Avenue for some time.  Tragically, at 3 AM on February 4, the home was burned beyond recognition.  Morgan was able to get his family out, but the house and its contents are totally destroyed.  Morgan's daughter, Erin, has created a Go Fund Me page which you can access below.  Anything you are able to contribute to support Morgan and his family would be greatly appreciated.
