22] – The Community College of Baltimore County is hosting its first Equity in Education Summit at the Dundalk Campus, 7200 Sollers Point Road, Baltimore 21222-4649, on Thurs., Jan. 26 from 9:30 AM to 3 PM with registration opening at 8:45 AM.  The morning will include the keynote speaker, Dr. Paul Gorski, a leader and activist for equitable education.  After his presentation, there will be a discussion-based breakout session, followed by lunch at noon.  At 12:45 PM (after lunch), a panel of activists will do presentations about activism.  I will be one of the activists. 24] – On Thurs., Jan. 26 from 4:30 to 6 PM, since Trump Is After Us, Stand Up For Us-Rally at the D.C. Council, John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, WDC 20004.  The event is hosted by Muslim American Women's Policy Forum.  Turn out against Trump's "Muslim Ban" policies to remind the D.C. 25] – Come to the ONE DC Black Workers Center at the New Community Church, 614 S St. NW, WDC, on Thurs., Jan. 26 from 6 to 8 PM.  ONE DC presents the DC Black Workers Center, a resident-led space that creates and maintains racial and economic justice through popular education, direct action and the creation of worker-owned alternatives.  It is a center for finding and creating positive, dignified Black work and training and an incubation space for alternatives to low-wage work, such as worker cooperatives, collectives, and small businesses created, owned, and operated by Black workers. 27] – On Fri., Jan. 27 at 9 AM., Leonard Spector, Center for Nonproliferation Studies,  will deliver a talk "Outlawing State-Sponsored Nuclear Procurement Programs & Recovery of Misappropriated Nuclear Goods" at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies, 1400 K St., Suite 1225, WDC. 28] – On Fri., Jan. 27 from noon to 1 PM, join the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker in a vigil urging the powers that be to abolish war and torture, to disarm all weapons, to end indefinite detention, to close Guantanamo, to establish justice for all and help create the Beloved Community! 29] – On Fri., Jan. 27 from noon to 1 PM, join a Women in Black peace vigil. A vigil will take place in McKeldin Square at the corner of Light and Pratt Sts. Stay for as long as you can. Wear black. Dress for who knows what kind of weather. Bring your own poster or help with the "NO WAR IN MY NAME" banner.  When there are others to stand with, you don't need to carry the burden alone. Do this to be in solidarity with others....when everything around us says “Be afraid of the stranger.” Carpool and parking available at both locations. 30] – There is usually a silent vigil on Fridays, from 5 to 6 PM, sponsored by Homewood Friends Meeting, outside the Homewood Friends Meetinghouse, 3107 N. Charles St.  The next scheduled vigil is on Jan. 27. Black Lives Matter.

31] -- You are invited to a screening of “Before the Flood” on Fri., Jan. 27 at 6:30 PM at the Towson Unitarian Universalist Church, hosted by the Green Sanctuary Committee of the Maryland Presbyterian Church. 32] –The Festival Church, Festival Center, 1640 Columbia Road NW, WDC 20009, invites the public to the Jerry S. Parr Lecture/Dialogue Series on Fri., Jan. 27 at 6 PM for a reception, followed by an address at 7 PM.  Wes Granberg-Michaelson will address the challenges of surviving with spiritual integrity and a resonant witness within the United States with Donald J. Trump as president. 

For nearly five decades, Wes Granberg-Michaelson has been a widely respected voice at the intersection of faith and politics in the life of the nation. Beginning as the chief legislative assistant to Sen. Mark Hatfield during the time of the Vietnam War, and then becoming an associate editor at the founding of Sojourners Magazine, Wes has given voice to how Christian faith expresses a faithful witness around pressing issues of peace, justice, and the integrity of creation. His years of membership in the Church of the Saviour shaped his future pilgrimage, which led him to be Director of Church and Society for the World Council of Churches, and then General Secretary of the Reformed Church in America for 17 years. He is the author of six books, hundreds of articles, and a leader in ecumenical efforts around the world. His most recent book is “From Times Square to Timbuktu: The Post-Christian West Meets the Non-Western Church.”

36] – School of Life is hosting a VEDIC MEDITATION COURSE on Sat., Jan. 28 and Sun., Jan. 29, conducted by Dr. Gyanendra Mahapatra, MD.  RSVP at shantiyoga2@earthlink.net. There is no special religion, belief system, diet or lifestyle requirement for one to learn Vedic Meditation.  “This Vedic Meditation is so simple, so easy and so natural. One learns how to dive deeply into oneself and fully know oneself. 37] – On Sat., Jan. 28 from 2 to 5 PM at the TASSC Office, 4121 Harewood Rd. NE, Suite B, WDC 20017, come to TASSC’s Annual Open House to celebrate another successful year at the Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition! This will be a wonderful time for TASSC survivors, friends and supporters to hear the personal testimonies of survivors, listen to East African-inspired music from members of the Kino Musica band, hear talented survivors sing and play traditional African instruments, and watch African folk dances.  And enjoy delicious snacks and wonderful conversation.  Honor members of Congress and their staff for their strong and ongoing support for human rights in Africa.  RSVP to Kelsey Fisher (Kelsey@tassc.org).
