Marriage Equality Pledge Form
The Maryland legislature passed and Governor O’Malley signed (on March 1, 2012), the Civil Marriage Protection Act, which extended to same sex couples the civil right to marry. The law protects the freedom of all religious organizations, including the Roman Catholic Church, to continue recognizing only those marriages that meet their doctrinal standards. No church official is compelled to marry any couple. The law is commonly known as the “Marriage Equality Law.”
Opponents have collected signatures to place the Marriage Equality Law on the November ballot. Those who support marriage equality are gathering pledges to assure that enough people will vote in favor of marriage equality in November to sustain the new law. Polls indicate that most Catholics in Maryland favor letting same sex couples enjoy the civil protections of the marriage contract available to opposite sex couples.
A coalition of Maryland Catholics known as Catholics for Marriage Equality, Maryland, is passing out these pledge forms to show concretely that a large number of Catholics in the state see marriage equality as a necessary component of Christ-like Catholic social justice doctrine. Will you be one of us?

The master class has always declared the wars; the subject class has always fought the battles. The master class has had all to gain and nothing to lose, while the subject class has had nothing to gain and everything to lose--especially their lives." Eugene Victor Debs
