70] – The Arms Control Association [xliang@armscontrol.org]
is urging you to do legislative outreach. Congress
can help steer us toward diplomacy and away from disaster. Two sets of
bicameral resolutions—H.Res. 100 and H.Res. 317 in the House and S.Res. 61 and S.Res.
323 in the Senate—are rallying points. H.Res. 100/S.Res. 61 specifically call
for urgent negotiations to replace New START, continued U.S. and Russian
compliance with current established limits, and separate engagement with China
to reduce nuclear risks. H.Res. 317/S.Res. 323 goes further and calls for the
United States to pursue a world free of nuclear weapons as a national security
imperative. Your voice matters. Urge your Representative and Senators to
co-sponsor these resolutions and publicly support a follow-on agreement before
New START expires.

78] – Carlo [cdadamo1848@gmail.com] urges you on Fri., Oct. 24 at 7 PM to come to Red Emma's Bookstore, 3128 Greenmount Ave., Baltimore 21218 to see a screening of "Occupy Wall Street: An American Dream" and hear from Director Michelle Fawcett, Arun Gupta (independent journalist) and Cullen Enn (Red Emma's Bookstore). The film is a personal narrative with original footage from 42 occupations in 27 states, Occupy Wall Street, and it offers a unique look at how the movement spread like wildfire and upended politics as usual. It’s the story of laid-off factory workers in the Rust Belt, Indigenous activists in the Southwest fighting another kind of occupation, recent graduates saddled with debt and no jobs, and homeless veterans of America’s forever wars kicked to the curb. But out of this suffering, the occupiers forged a new American Dream on street corners, parks, and public plazas from coast to coast. And out of this struggle, they flipped the script from austerity to inequality, from reform to revolution, and from fear to power, heralding a new era in American politics. Avelo is the only passenger airline in the U.S. that flies deportation flights for ICE. Over the last two months, the airline flew 20% of all ICE flights, including one from BWI to a private detention facility in Louisiana that has been accused of abusive and unsanitary conditions. State officials have said they have no power to remove Avelo’s passenger services from BWI. But we filed a FOIA to obtain their contract with Avelo, and it says clearly that they can. In fact, they could stop letting this cruel company make money at our publicly-owned airport with just 30 days notice.

89] – Hideaki Ito [silentfalloutproject.org@gmail.com] wants to give you an update about the Silent Fallout Project. It has been more than five months since Silent Fallout was screened in Baltimore. He wants to express his sincere gratitude to all who supported the project during its US tour and hosted screenings. The film was shown in 20 locations over 43 days to over 600 people. The film aims to raise awareness about the reality of radiation contamination across the American continent and how many Americans are unknowingly exposed. It helps people understand that they are impacted by this issue and then use the US as a starting point to spark a global conversation about radiation.
Currently, the project is facing a deficit of $100K, and its future is uncertain. However, Ito is determined to raise funds and continue its activities. In 2025, which marks the 80th year since the birth of the atomic bomb, there is a plan to embark on a European screening tour, produce a new film, conduct a second US tour, and host a large-scale event on August 6th. “One is called to live nonviolently, even if the change one works for seems impossible. It may or may not be possible to turn the US around through nonviolent revolution. But one thing favors such an attempt: the total inability of violence to change anything for the better" - Daniel Berrigan
