2] –To obtain information how your federal legislators voted on particular bills, go to http://thomas.loc.gov/.  Congressional toll-free numbers are 888-818-6641, 888-355-3588 or 800-426-8073. The White House Comment Email is accessible at http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/.

3] –  Janice Sevre-Duszynska needs some assistance in archiving her activist material.  If you are interested in this project, contact Max at 410-323-1607 or mobuszewski2001 at Comcast dot net.

4] – Barry Lee Burnside, a gaggle of great writers and copy editors are making available “A Bag of Snakes: Selected Writings on Prisons and the Death Penalty by Murphy Davis and Eduard Loring. Edited by Barry Lee Burnside.” Ed indicates the book will be available for sale on April 13, and is asking you to pre-order your copy. Your donation will provide a needed financial boost for the printing costs. The suggested donation is $20 for one copy; and $30 for your copy and an additional copy for a prisoner or someone in need. Any donation is appreciated. More or less you will receive the book.  Barry and the team have spent over two years putting this book together. It begins with outlines and notes found in the boxes of materials Murphy left when she ascended. The work is a work of love, and all involved are proud of the fruit borne by seeds nourished in good soil.

To order by postal mail, make your check to Open Door Community.  Send it to Open Door Community, PO Box 10980, Baltimore 21234.  For any questions, contact David Payne at 404-290-2047 or davidpayne@opendoorcommunity.org.

5] – Another book to consider purchasing is Male Supremacy in the Catholic Church: An Insider’s View by Roy Bourgeois. His new book is both memoir and position-paper, and it makes the case that the Roman Catholic Church is a corrupt system that spits out truth-tellers. The crime he was excommunicated for was attending the ordination ceremony of Janice Sevre-Duszynska in Lexington, Kentucky, in August 2008. The ordination was under the auspices of the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests.  The Vatican’s response has been to excommunicate any woman who has the audacity to see herself as a priest equal to a male priest. You can purchase a copy from Amazon or by Kindle.

Here are two quotes to contemplate: “I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men. She is to keep silent.” – Timothy 1, 2:12-13.  “If the patriarchy that dominates the church is not dismantled and women are not treated as equals, the church will continue to diminish and, eventually, die.” – Roy Bourgeois.

6] – A home in Baltimore is for sale on a dead-end street in the Lauraville neighborhood, with three bedrooms, and one bath. The yard backs into a field and then a forest. There is a serene and quiet setting with an abundance of wildlife. The owner will be asking a reasonable amount for the property but it will not be overpriced. Contact her by text only at 443 500 6733. On the text, leave your name and phone number, and she will get back to anyone that reaches out.

7] – Takoma Park Mobilization [info@tpmobilization.org] on Mon., June 1 through June 8 for WorldPride 2025. 2025 marks the 50th Anniversary of Pride celebrations in Washington, DC! 8] – The Baltimore Ethical Society invites you on Sundays at 10:30 AM for a platform presentation on Zoom or at the Impact Hub Baltimore, 10 E. North Ave., Baltimore 21202.  On June 1 join a virtual Remembrance Day. Facilitated by Karen Elliott. This is a traditional gathering together to remember the loss of those who have had an impact on our lives.  Share memories, thoughts about loss, and maybe even a few tears as you embody what a beloved community looks like.  There is also the community loss of Hugh Taft-Morales as Leader. Last week he was celebrated on his retirement. Trained Leaders over the years have enhanced an understanding of Ethical philosophy and how to better bring out the best in others and therefore in yourselves. After some time spent on this shared loss within the community, move on to a more traditional individual remembrance time for the rest of the program. Elliott is an Ethical Culture Officiant and long-time member and lay leader at the Baltimore Ethical Society. To receive the Zoom link, email president@bmorethical.org

12] -- Join the Anti-Imperialist Summer School Week 1: Introduction—What is Imperialism?  It takes place on Sun., June 1 from 4 to 6 PM at the Festival Center, 1640 Columbia Road NW, WDC 20009. Email internationalism@mdcdsa.org. This Summer School will consist of a series of teach-ins, held over the course of 6 weeks in May and June, which will provide a crash course in the shape and functioning of contemporary global imperialism.  The weekly sessions will take place Sundays from 4-6 PM and run for approximately 90 minutes. All sessions will be hybrid—when you RSVP, scroll down on the confirmation page to get the Zoom link under “Instructions From Your Host:” https://actionnetwork.org/events/beyond-the-bombs-anti-imperialist-summer-school?link_id=72&can_id=4b9d4061aec5469758759317ac0f5285&source=email-metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-may-23-2025&email_referrer=email_2755117&email_subject=metro-dc-dsa-weekly-newsletter-for-may-30-2025&&

In the first session of MDC DSA’s Beyond the Bombs: Anti-Imperialist Summer School teach-in series, get a foundation for the series by introducing participants to the basic principles of key Marxist theories of imperialism, beginning with Lenin’s theory of imperialism and encompassing subsequent developments such as neocolonialism, dependency theory, and world-systems analysis. In this session, get a more holistic and structural analysis of imperialism as a system of global political economy—what Lenin called “the highest stage of capitalism”—characterized by the extractive flow of wealth, value, and resources from the Global South to the Global North.

13] – Progressive Democrats of America [info@pdamerica.org] on Sun., June 1 at 4 PM ET will hold its weekly Town Hall with John Bonifaz, one of the country's leading constitutional scholars. He will discuss why it is imperative for all of us who value living in a Constitutional Democratic Republic to demand the impeachment of a President who refuses to operate within the law. RSVP at https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJ0tceuhrzsvHdymeeZRwb-i7X50FJa-HMR4?emci=2c1cec37-8b2c-f011-8b3d-6045bded8cca&emdi=f91e7ca5-df2c-f011-8b3d-6045bded8cca&ceid=2907617#/registration

The list of President Trump's transgressions against the American political system during his second term are legion, but which are impeachable offenses, which directly break the laws of the land as laid out in the Constitution - and what is the overlap between the two?  And just as importantly, John will speak to the necessity of demanding impeachment - even when the House majority is choosing to serve the President rather than uphold the Constitution - and Democratic Party consultants advise against it.

14] – Freedom is written on the Tablets: a Pre-Shavuot event in Support of Immigrants will happen on Sun. June 1 from 4 to 6 PM. As immigrants are under attack in the US and elsewhere, Jews and their friends in the US have an opportunity to consider Jewish histories in parallel to those of our non-Jewish neighbors. You can participate by going to Homewood Friends Meeting House, 3107 N. Charles St., Baltimore 21218 or by a Livestream. RSVP at https://jufj.org/event/shavuot-ij/?emci=7418e154-8c3c-f011-a5f1-6045bda9d96b&emdi=8a46b102-923c-f011-a5f1-6045bda9d96b&ceid=4262660

15] – On Sundays, June 1 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM ET, join for a virtual "Rapid Response for Our Freedoms," a crucial event where we stand as one to defend democracy, uphold the rule of law, and safeguard the rights and freedoms we all hold dear. This is our moment to rise up for an America that includes everyone when we say "liberty and justice for all," not just the wealthy and powerful.  At People Power United, we believe in progress and the strength of collective action. Together, we can push back against extremism and build a brighter future. Join us in the fight for Freedom over Fascism and help amplify the power of people to shape our democracy! This event will continue through August 31. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/747339/

17] – Death Penalty Action [info@deathpenaltyaction.org] on Sun., June 1 at 9 PM ET hopes you will tune in to The Forecast.  Join Death Penalty Action for a review of the issues and action opportunities surrounding the next several executions scheduled in the United States. This project of Death Penalty Action recurs (normally) on the first Sunday of each month. Take action at DeathPenaltyAction.org. 18] – There is a weekly Pentagon Peace Vigil from 7 to 8 AM on Mondays, since 1987, outside the Pentagon Metro stop.  The next vigil is June 2, and it is sponsored by the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker.  Email artlaffin@hotmail.com or call 202-882-9649.  The vigil will be outside the Pentagon's south Metro entrance and in the designated "protest zone" behind bicycle fences across from the entrance to the Metro.

By Metro, take Yellow Line and get out at the "Pentagon" stop. Do not go to the Pentagon City stop! Go up south escalators and turn left and walk across to protest area. By car from D.C. area, take 395 South and get off at Exit 8A-Pentagon South Parking. Take slight right onto S. Rotary Rd. at end of ramp and right on S. Fern St. Then take left onto Army Navy Dr. You can "pay to park" on Army Navy Dr.,  and there is meter parking one block on right on Eads St. Payment for both of these spots begins at 8 AM.  No cameras are allowed on Pentagon grounds. The restrooms are located inside Marriot Providence Inn on corner of S. Fern and Army Navy Dr.

19] – Muslims for Just Futures (MJF) [community@muslimsforjustfutures.org] on Mon., June 2 at 9 AM want you to attend a meeting to Defend DC Sanctuary Status Now. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s attempt to dismantle Washington, DC’s sanctuary city protections—quietly embedded in her proposed budget for FY2025 must be challenged. These protections are not symbolic. They are vital lifelines for the immigrant communities—especially Black, Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (BAMEMSA) immigrant residents.   If passed, the budget would repeal the Sanctuary Values Act, a law that ensures DC agencies do not collaborate with ICE and other federal enforcement bodies. This rollback would be devastating. This is why we are submitting testimony to DC Council and are inviting you all to take action now. Get over to the DC Council Budget Oversight Hearing in Room 500 (Track A), 1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.

20] – On Mon., June 2 from 11 AM to noon ET, as part of Moral Monday, gather for a prophetic stand. If you’re not able to come, you can still register to get the livestream link to watch where you are: https://secure.everyaction.com/ApnxbEa9U0yff72sWvsAjw2?u

A Moral Monday was born out of righteous indignation and holy imagination. As the cries of the poor grow louder and the policies of the powerful grow colder, we must rise. Join Bishop William J. Barber, II, faith leaders from every tradition, and a remnant of clergy dressed in full vestments. Assemble at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 301 A Street SE, at 9 AM. Then march as a unified moral voice at 11 AM to the Capitol steps in front of the Supreme Court.

21] – On Mon., June 2 through Fri., June 6 from 11:45 AM to 1 PM ET or 5 to 7:30 PM, phone bank with the AFL-CIO union members to reclaim its power. Ask every union member to reach out to another potential union member and invite them to join or rejoin their union, paying directly to their organization.  Through unlawful national security exclusions, nearly all members of federal unions have been denied their union rights under law and contract. As part of that attack, federal agencies have dropped nearly all members from payroll deduction, meaning they need to sign up again as members to stay in the fight.  Please select two phone banking shifts for each week to help support federal employees taking control of their lives.

22] – Progressive Democrats of America [info@pdamerica.org] wants you to participate with the Grassroots Election Protection Coalition/ALLIANCE 4 GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY Zoom on Mon., June 2 at 5 PM ET. Hear from leading activists, elected officials, and others committed to union organizing as well as cleaning up our elections and the environment, and other critically important issues. RSVP at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYqfuygpjIiHtc20uIOxdeqYRiAicjSLWUc#/registration
